Hokay, so everyone knows I'm writing a book, si?
Duh. We're over that.
Anyway, you ever noticed how a lot of books have songs in them? Pretty much free verse poetry?
So write one.
And send it in.
Because Kirby will give serious cash for it.
You have until January 1st, 2007. WRITE WELL! Make it shortish, decent, (as in, for kids older than 9) and naturey--the whole point is to have a character from my book sing it. I might be needing happy ones, depressing ones, lovey ones, war ones. Read what I've posted of my book to see what I mean. I have an example I'll post; most of the time, I'll seperate the lines with text showing someone else's reaction to the song, so if it's no good unless it's all together, let me know.
Mostly, it's going to be elves singing--that's pretty much what they do. So make it about nature stuff, love, war, old world kind of things. If you can somehow hum the tune online, please do; it'll help me when I write.
And as a further prize, in addition to the 10k or 20k as a prize (I said serious cash--it'll be divided among the winners, probably three of 'em, depending) THIS WILL BE IN A PUBLISHED BOOK.
I WILL get this one published. You can bet on that. And if I make your poem a part of it, I'll mention you somewhere in the acknowledgements. instafame, much?
if you want to change it later, fine with me. I'll fix it ASAP. But I need some kind of version of it by January 1st.
Rewordings of good songs are loved, (my current favorite: Oasis) and they don't even have to be in English. Mention the song title, though, please.
Oh, and one thing: not rhyming is probably better than rhyming. To confuse people, more or less, I say that I translated the book from Ametrisan, not English. So naturally, things won't rhyme. Ever. They can if you want, I guess--I did it myself. But free verse is easier, isn't it? Keep in mind that this is not about the story, but about the world it's in, it can be short or long, I might mess with it a little bit to make it more fitting, (but you'll get full credit) and I'll love you forever if you enter! heart
So! things to remember:
~Poetry or song lyrics, preferrably organized and unrhymed ~Deadline: Jan. 1 ~Entry fee: 100g ~Prize: 10-20k or a random assortment of bugs, furniture, and paper along with 7k. (I'd take the money, but I wanna get rid of the stuff.) ~Everyone besides me can enter, I'm judging.
And whoever Mugglecast4lyfe is, why is your name at the bottom of my post? domokun And that's it! GET WRITING!!! heart

El Modelo:
(Example smile
Written by me-- (An elf song)
"Come with me, my love, to the shores of the sea, On the edge of the ocean we'll stand, you and me, Over our heads, a lone seabird calls, As we stand together, the moon rises, night falls. Unbothered are we by tempestuous storms, for when I am with you I am never forlorn, And as the dawn breaks, the seabirds awake, Their wings they will spread and their nests they'll forsake, There, together we'll stand, forever more, On the sands of the distant faraway shore, And listen, my love, to the songs of the sea, The waves and the birds rejoicing eternally, Forever we'll stay on those shores for which we yearn, And we'll promise each other that someday we'll return."
(A children's sort of skiprope rhyme, like a bible song if they had a bible)
Show not your pride, let it shine gently through, Never stow your fear away or let it take over you, Always be honest, don't let your mercy hide, And the deity in you one day will come out from inside...
Live, laugh, learn! let nothing lead you astray, And everyone will meet again in Zildja some day, Give no offense, take everything in stride, and the deity in you one day will come out from inside...
Written by someone else-- (From Brian Jacques's Taggerung--if you didn't know, his stories are about animals like ferrets, squirrels, and otters.)
"Ho if I was a stream I'd chance to go, A-racin' to the sea, Yonder way fresh waters flow, And that's the way for me.
Leapin' and boundin', Splashin' and soundin', Rudder 'round rock and log, With pike and trout, I'd frisk about, A good ole riverdog!
Through leafy glades the waters call, Across the open meadow, An' when I sight a waterfall, Why down will go me head oh!"
Example of a poem from aforesaid book:
"Who Can outrun the wind, Yet turn on a single leaf, Stand silent as an amberfly, Or steal the breath from a thief? The Taggerung! Who can outswim a pike, Whose eyes are as keen as the hawk's, Who brings death in his wake Yet leaves no mark where he walks? Zann Juskarath Taggerung!"
The Taggerung is like my chosen, only an otter. Obviously, such chant-ish poems about the chosen are LOVED! heart
