There was a low whistle in the distance, followed by a steady rumbling. The gloomy ambiance created by the thick cloud cover made it sound almost ghastly. Closer and closer it drew near, until a shape broke through the clouds -- it was an old-fashioned steam engine. Years of wear and tear had taken its toll on the poor machine. Its once shining metallic finish had rusted to a dull brown and the paint had nearly all chipped away. The area exploded in a cloud of steam as the train screeched to a halt. Everything was eerily still for a moment, but suddenly there was a loud creak. First the wheels fell off, then the rest of the engine car sagged onto the broken wooden tracks. The whole thing just...fell apart.
A figure emerged from the wreckage -- it was a man. He wore a freshly pressed blue conductor's uniform and had a small traveler's bag slung over his right shoulder. His eyes were closed and his face showed no signs of emotion. There was a mysterious and almost creepy aura about him. Soon, he was greeted by an old man who ran out from the station house.
"Ahh, right on time a'salways, eh? 'been a while since yeh last came 'round," he said in an almost raspy voice. The young man gestured back towards the wreck of a train. "Nngh. Was wonderin' how long'd last, the poor thing. Guess yeh'll be stuck 'ere fer a while." He held out a wrinkled envelope, which the young man promptly pocketed. "Now be careful, y'hear? There's been some weird happenins lately, the word is." The young man simply tipped his hat in thanks and silently went on his way.
"Well there's a weird kid if I ever seen one..."

"This looks alright."
Sitting in the cabin of the empty train, Thatch drew out the fish from his pocket, balancing the weighty portion of cold meat from one hand to the other, before laying it on the floor and drawing his sabre.
"Doubt Smaug would be pleased if I used him to prepare our meal." He winked at Train, before slashing into cutlets. "Eat up partner."
"Mreow." Was the grace given for the meal as the two tucked into the fish, the bread being saved for now.
Breaking out the cordial, Thatch took a swig before lowering it down to allow train to lap at what sat around the mouth of the bottle, before taking a second one and tucking it back. He and Train had been together since he had been a mere kitten, partners always. Leaning against the old steel, the pirate watched the fog roll by, just as he had done on nights at sea. Hunching up, he thought of everyone who had gone down on Claudia II. There was only him and Train now...No captain, no crew, no ship...
He smirked, patting Smaug at his side. He'd bloody well slain the beast responsible and shanghaid his soul. He had power, he had a trusted ally, he had a ships cat. Hell, there was work to be done! Pirates were free men and gentleman of fortune, risking death was all part of that and if you were going to go, you went like the crew in a glorious flare!
It was time to start planning.
