Welcome! All of the following posted below is a small collective of information on the Battle System found
mainly from this Guild, the GCD, and the Battle MMO Forum as of [ February 17th, 2008 ]

---THE BS---
Q: What is the Battle System?
A: Aside from battling Monsters and Foe's with a team of friends, or a on your own, you can also fulfill Quests for NPC's, play games, or just wonder around and view the sites and hang out with friends.
Q: When do we get to play the Battle System?
A: No one knows for sure. Though there is no set date for its release it has been mentioned that it will be up by the this Halloween 2008.
Q: Will there be a Beta of the Battle System?
A: Yes! There will be a Public Beta of the Battle System, but there is also no set date for its release either.
Q: What is this "Battle Website"? Where is it at?
A: Its a site that lets us view more on the Battle System is about. And its located in many Stickies here in this Forum. Here at Gaia Battle Site
Q: Will we be able to to have Clan, or Party Battles with friends in the Battle System?
A: Yes. But how it works is not fully known yet.
Q: Can we have more then one Clan/Party to fight with?
A: Yes, you can belong to more then one.
Q: Are we getting fighting Classes for the BS?
A: No. Originally it was said there would be, but not anymore. From what we know the Battle Rings will work in a way to give us class-like stats and abilities... depending on your Ring Combo.
Q: Will we have to Download it to play?
A: No. You will not have to download the game to play, just like with the mini games. But you will have to have Flash Player though.
Q: Will WIFI be fast enough to play the Battle System on?
A: No idea. Will try to find that out.
Q: Will there be Music in the Battle System? Or at least Better Music then whats currently in the Towns?
A: Yes. In fact Gaia has hired on some composers to create many different themes of music. Depending on where you are in the game, and what you're doing, you will hear different kinds of Music playing. (visit the Battle Website to sample of one of the tracks that will be playing in the Battle System)
Q: Will our avi's walk around in the Battle System the same way we do in the Towns?
A: Yes and No. The default movement method in the game is is still the same "click to move" with the mouse, but the walking animation will be different.
Q: Will we have to change our Avatars to play?
A: No. You will not have to change anything about your avatars clothing or appearance in order to play.
Q: Will we have to Pay it to play?
A: No. Playing will be totally free.
Q: Is there anything we will have to Pay for regarding the Battle System?
A: Actually there is! You can buy "Extra Content" with Gaia Cash, and you will be able to purchase the original music for the Game Soundtrack!
Q: Is the "Name the Game" Contest for the Battle System over? Who won?
A: Yes it ended Dec 27, 2007. Now that the contest is closed, the Developers say that they are very close to announcing a winner. This may be revealed in the next Battle Update.
---CONTROLS---
Q: How do you move around in the Battle System?
A: Just link in the Towns you can use either your "Mouse" to click to move around, or you can use the "Arrow Keys" on your Key Board.
Q: Will we have "Hot Keys"?
A: Yes, we will have "Hot Keys." A few are:
1#. Be able to hit the TAB button to select the toggle between Monsters in to attack
2#. Hit any of the buttons F1 threw F8 to trigger the matching Ring on that you have in your Action Bar.
3#. And hit the "Spacebar" to quickly select yourself to heal during combat if you have a Healing Ring equipped.

---WEAPONRY---
Q: Can we use weapon type Monthly Collectibles aka "MCs" in the future BS?
A: Only for show, like a decoration. It will NOT effect your Battle in anyway.
Q: Will any Weapons and Clothing do anything in the Battle System?
A: Nope. They will do nothing more but make you look fabulous.
Q: Will MC's have any cool visual effects just for show?
A: No, they will NOT have any kind of visual effects other then the small animation that is already provided for them when you walk around wearing them in the Towns.
Q: Where can I buy weapons and armor?
A: Right now, by donating to Gaiaonline to get a Monthly Collectible aka "MC" that are known for that month to be a weapon or armor. People also sell they're weapons and armor MC's in the Marketplace. There are also a few weapon like tools and Helms available in Shops and Exchanges you can use for your battle look. (A possible NPC ran shop in the Isle De Gambino may still open to sell weaponry when the BS arrives.)
Q: GUNS!!! Will there ever be Guns on Gaia!?
A: Yes. We now have the Event item the "Squirt Gun", the sponsored Quest "Bee Movie Gun", and the "Assassin's Guise" Monthly Collectible. But no word yet if any other Gun based items will be made into future MC's, or added to the Shops and Gaia Cash Shop.
Q: Will "Gaia Cash", or the Cash Shop have any effect in the Battle System?
A: Yes. Qixter stated that there will be "Extra Content" that can be purchased using Gaia Cash.
---RINGS---
Q: What are Rings?
A: Rings are items with magical abilities that we use to fight Monsters and Foe's in the Battle World.
Q: When we wear Rings, will they appear on our Avatars?
A: No. They go into your inventory an appear in your "Action Bar" when you play in the Battle System. They do not show up as a normal piece of jewelry would.
Q: How do I get these Rings?
A: You gain them from defeating Monsters, and from Quests in the Battle System. You can buy them from other users as well in the Market Place.
Q: Will we start off with some free Rings?
A: Yes. There will be a sort of Battle Intro to the Battle System that will introduce use to the systems working that will provide us with some Rings.
Q: How many Rings are there?
A: It has been mentioned that there are 18 Rings added in the Game now, though much much more are in the works. A few of the known Rings are:
1.# The Mantis Ring,
2.# The Bump Ring,
3.# The Improbability Sphere Ring,
4.# And the Defibrillate Ring.
- Qixter also mentioned a Ring called "Scaredy Cat!" Look here for images of the known Rings and their effects at Gaia Battle Site.
Q: How many Rings can we wear, or have use at one time?
A: We can wear up to ( 8 ) eight rings all together that will go into a "Action Bar." Four Rings on each hand meaning three for each finger on both hands, and and one each thumb.
Q: How many Rings can we own all together?
A: We can own TONS of Rings, but there will be a limit. And we will have a Ring Inventory added in our Storage as well to help sort and organize them.
Q: Will Rings be sold in the Shops of in the Cash Shop?
A: No. And you won't be to sell the Rings back to the Shops for Gold either.
Q: What prices will the Rings be in the Market?
A: It will be up to us Gaian's to decided on there price ranges. Just like with the MCs and Event Items in the MP. So if a Ring is more rare or more popular it will most likely cost more to buy in the Market Place due to it's higher demand.
Q: Will the Rings have any kind of visual effects when you use them?
A: Yes. The Rings will display a special effect when you use them. For an example of one Rings effect look here at the [NPC] Gaia Battle 2
Q: Will the Rings make any kind of sound effects what you use them?
A: Yes they will. From the new [NPC] Gaia Battle 2 it shows a video clip of the Mantis Ring Concept that included sound effects.
Q: Will there be Rare Rings?
A: Yes! Some Rings will be Rare, but not much else is disclosed about them yet.
Q: Whats a "Charge Level"?
A: A "Charge Level" is a level that each individual Ring has that gets filled up by acquiring/collecting "Energy Orbs."
Q: So then what are "Energy Orbs"?
A: "Energy Orbs" are items you gained from defeated opponents, or from completing Quests. They appear in your Inventory until you use the "Energy Orbs" to charged up a Ring, powering it up further and making its effect more powerful/formidable.
Q: Will some "Energy Orbs" have more energy then others?
A: This is not yet known.
Q: Can we sell/trade "Energy Orbs" ?
A: No. Though they do appear in your Inventory until you use them to charge a Ring they cannot be sold or traded.
Q: What is "Rage Rank?"
A: "Rage Rank" is the power your Ring contains. Each Ring starts with a "Rage Rank" of 1, and the highest you can level up 4.
Q: What can I do when my "Rage Rank" increases?
A: As your "Rage Rank" increases it activates a new ability for that Ring. So each Ring will have 4 kinds of abilities or attacks. The higher "Rage Rank" ability you use the more time it will take the Ring to "charge up" and do the attack.
Q: But how do I increase my "Rage Rank?"
A: You fill up your "Rage Rank" by accumulate "Rage" in the game by using your Rings to battle and from taking on damage from opponents.
Q: If I have no "Rage" can I still use my Rings?
A: Nope. You need to have some Rage filled up before you can use a Ring. |

---MONSTERS & CRITTERS---
Q: Will we get Gold from fighting Monsters?
A: Yes. After defeating a Monster it may leave behind Gold. Also, they may leave behind Drop Items and/or Energy Orbs.
Q: Will there be Boss's to fight?
A: Yes. But what they are, no one knows yet.
Q: Will Boss's or stronger Monsters leave behind more Gold, or rare Drop Items, or more powerful Energy Orbs when they are defeated?
A: This is not yet known.
Q: Will every creature I encounter in the Battle System be a fight-able Monster?
A: No, in fact some creatures or “Environmental Critters" like Cows and Crows will just be hanging around to add to the atmosphere of the Battle World.
Q: Will there be more kinds of Monsters and Critters in the Battle System then whats been shown so far?
A: Yes, Dev Qixter stated in his Sticky that there will be far more Monsters and Critters in the Battle Systems release.
Q: What else can I expect from battling the Monsters?
A: A side from Monsters leaving behind Gold, Drop Items, and Energy Orbs, in some areas multiple types of monsters will ban together to form groups and to work together to defeat you.
Q: Will different Monsters inhabit different locations?
A: Yes. Some Monsters are based in particular maps.
Q: Will Gaia's GST/Time of Day effect the Monsters?
A: Yes. In fact some some monsters appear only at night.
Q: Will the awesome Rock Puppy be in the Battle System?
A: Yes! Developer swarf mentioned that the Rock Puppy will be in the Battle System, and as a good guy! O.O!
---NPCS---
Q: What are "NPC's" and why are they in the Battle System?
A: "NPC's" are "Non-Playable Characters" in the Battle World programed to provide us with Quests, information, recipes, and hints.
Q: What NPCs will be in the Battle System?
A: These NPC are known to be in the Battle System:
1#. Rina
2#. Leon (Rina's older brother)
3#. Rancher Bill
4#. Purvis (Rancher Bill's son)
5#. Katsumi
6#. A clan of Ninja
7#. Pirates of the Shallow Sea

---QUESTS---
Q: Will we have Quests in the Battle System?
A: Yes. NPC within the battle World will provide us with Quests.
Q: What will be the Rewards from the Quests in the Battle System?
A: Its been mentioned that some Quests will provide us with Rings, and Recipes used to Craft new items.
Q: Will Quests in the Battle System work on Gaia's main site?
A: Yes, the Questing System is being upgraded so that Battle Quests will also work on Gaia's main site.
---CRAFTING & RECIPES---
Q: What is "Crafting"?
A: When you defeat a monster it sometimes leaves behind a Drop Item. Some of these Drop Items can be combined or exchanged into other items as long as you have the "Recipe" to make that new item. When you pick up a "Drop Item" it goes directly to your Inventory.
Q: Whats a "Drop Item/Loot Drop"?
A: "Drop Items" are simply Items that have been Droped behind by defeated Monsters. "Loot Drop" is another current way to refer to them.
Q: What kind of items can we "Craft"?
A: We can Craft items that can be warn, such as clothing, weapons, and armory (all just for show of course.) Check out the [NPC] Gaia Battle 2 profile. And we can add some items into our Rings to add more abilities.
Q: Can we use "Crafted" Items?
A: Yes. Most of the Crafted Items will be weapons, armor, and clothing that can ONLY be warn. These are only for show, and will not effect your battles in anyway.
Q: Can we sell Crafted" Items?
A: Yes. You can sell Crated Items in the Market Place.
Q: Okay, so what are "Recipes"? How do they work?
A: A "Recipe" simply allows you "Craft" a particular item. If you take a "Recipe" and the items needed to a Battle Shop, they will be combine into a new item.
Q: Where can I get "Recipes"?
A: You can gain them as a reward for fulfilling Quests, or from defeating Monsters.
Q: Can I sell "Recipes"?
A: Although the Battle Website states you can, currently Qixter mentioned that "...current concept for recipes is that they are untradeable when found..." so for now the answer is no. This way only a selected few people can make the item.
Q: Will some "Recipes" be rare?
A: Perhaps, still not yet known.
Q: Can I still "Craft" new items without a "Recipe"?
A: No. You need the "Recipe" to make the item.
Q: Can I sell the "UN-crafted" Items?
A: Yes. You can sell the Items that you are able to "Craft" to in the Market Place, or trade them to someone who has the "Recipe" but needs those items. |

---LOCATIONS & MAPS---
Q: Will Gaia's World be fully 3D like the Towns?
A: Yes, or rather eventually all the current Maps of the world of Gaia will be made to be 3D and interactive like Gaia's Towns. In some areas you'll be able to walk into shops to buy items, chat with other users, and of course in other other areas you can search for Monsters to battle.
Q: How are the Maps/Locations in the Battle System set up?
A: The Battle System will have different locations called "Zones", such as the Zen Gardens, or the Otami Ruins. And each "Zone" contains Areas that are divided up into "Rooms."
Q: Are these "Rooms" gonna be like a Room with walls or something?
A: No, by "Rooms" it just means that the Area is a section containing an environment, like the way the Towns are setup. If you wonder to the edge of a "Room" you will transition to the next "Room." At the beginning of each Zone there is a "Room" called a "Shard Field." From there you progress on deeper into the "Zone" to other "Rooms" to battle Monsters.
Q: Whats a "Shard Field"?
A: "Shard Fields" are a Room/Area placed at the beginning of each Battle "Zone". There you can recover from your "Dazed" status from fighting safely from Monsters.
Q: What are known Battle "Zones"?
A: So far these "Zones" or location have been listed or mentioned:
1.# Barton Town,
2.# Bassken Lake,
3.# Bills Ranch,
4.# Zen Gardens,
5.# Otami Ruins,
6.# Old Aqueduct,
7.# House on the Hill,
8.# Shallow Sea,
9.# Gold Coast,
And The Villages (aka The Towns.)

Q: Can we Teleport to different places?
A: Other then to Teleport to the nearest "Shard Field" to recover from being"Dazed" we don't know yet if we'll be able to Teleport from Room to Room or from one Zone to another Zone. |

---GAME SLANG---
Q: What is a "NPC"?
A: It stands for "Non-Playable Character." They are normally a programed character that is set up to fulfill tasks that an average user cannot do. For Gaia they run shops, exchanges, Events, and take part in the Mangas.
Q: What is the "MP"?
A: MP stand for "Market Place." It is a feature that allows users (or a one time fee) to sell and buy or bid on items from other users. Some items such as MC's, Quest, and Event Items sold in the MP are not sold in the NPC ran shops.
Q: What is an "MC"?
A: MC stand for "Monthly Collectible" This is an item that users receive in a letter sent to they're inventory for donating money to Gaiaonline. Users can sell they're MC's in the Market for Gold. (In the past MC's were referred to as DI's = Donation Items.)
Q: What is "RPing"?
A: "RP" or "RPing" stands for "Role Playing." Role Playing is an improvisational plot or a made up story in which the participants make up there own characters and play it out.
Q: What is a "RPG"?
A: Its short for "Role-Playing Game" not to be confused with "RPing." You take on the role of a fiction character/persona along with others in a interactive world that has set story lines and plots.
Q: What is a "MMO"?
A: It stands for "Massive Multi-player O]nline Game. Its a online game were you can roleplay in an interactive world that continues to play on and change even while you aren't online to experience it. There are more controls to your actions and to the story's and plots. It involves all the aspects of an RPG and much much more.
Q: What is a "MMORPG?"
A: Just combine the two explanations provided for "MMO" and "RPG" and you'll get the answer! biggrin
Q: What is "PvsP"?
A: "PvsP" or "Pvp" stands for "Player vs Player." This is when you can battle against other players. This option however will not be in the Battle System release, but it may be added later on.
Q: What is "PKing"?
A: "PK" or "PKing" is "Player Killing." When a game has a PvP option you can battle against other players and kill other users.
Q: What is "KSing"?
A: "KS" or KSing" is a slang for "Kill Steal(ing)" Which is when your fighting a Creature and just before you can deal the final blow someone else steps in and does it for you, thus they get the points and or credits instead of you. For Gaia's Battle System, that would be for the Rage XP increase. Though it is still not yet know if this will be allowed when it is released.
Q: What is a "Roleback"?
A: This word has struck fear and despair into Gaia's populace many a day. A Rollback is the last ditch effort of the Admin's to correct a glitch or fault in Gaia's economy. Such as the Daily Chance, or a Minigame paying out too much Gold or items. Rollback, quite literally, reverses all that has transpired within a certain amount of time. All gold earned, all trades made, all items acquired will disappear if it was done within that 'rollback' time frame.
---CHAT SLANG---
Q: What dose it mean when a person types "Pwn" or "Pwnage" in a message?
A: Basically it is a universal way through out the online world to say that a "player has been owned" or "to own." You have been dominated by, or dominated an opponent/situation/discussion.
Q: What dose "FTW" mean?
A: FTW stands for "For The Win." This is a way to show at the end of a comment, or post enthusiasm for something that was said or done. Sometimes it can be use as a way to mock, or be sarcastic if a person said or did something lame.
Q: What does "WTF" mean?
A: WTF stands for "What The Fuck." A slang interjection sometimes used by a person that is utterly confused and both surprised.
Q: What does "W00t" mean?
A: Sometimes spelled as "woot" it is a slang interjection sometimes used to express happiness or excitement.
Q: What does it mean someone posts "QFT"?
A: Usually only typed when someone quoted another person post. "QTF" stands for "Quoted For Truth" Meaning that the person thinks that the statement they quoted is not only pleasingly accurate, but should be emphasized to others.
Q: What dose "Flame" or "Flaming" mean?
A: Flaming is when a user goes out of there way to post a personally attack, angry, insulting, or even threatened message or response directly to another user. (if you come across a user posting in such a way please report them immediately. And don't give in to Flaming.)
Q: What is "Cyber" or "Cyboring"?
A: "Cyber" is short for the slang cybersex, a form of role play in where two or more participants send erotic messages to one another. This is strictly prohibited by the Gaiaonline's T.O.S. and is frowned upon within the Gaia community, especially do to the threat posed by sexual predators. Engaging in "Cyboring" will get you banned.
Q: What dose it mean when a person asks for my "ASL"?
A: "ASL" stands for "Age Sex Location." Some one is asking you what is your age, whats is your gender, and where you are located. It is sometimes better not to answer these questions to prevent your account from getting hacked, and to keep individuals from trying to "Cybor" with you, which is strictly prohibited by the Gaiaonline's T.O.S., and is Bannable offense.
Q: What do people mean when they ask for "PURE"?
A: "PURE" is slang for Gold. The person is looking to trade or get paid for a task/service with Gold only.
Q: What is "Artificial Inflation"?
A: "Artificial Inflation" is caused by a users that buy out most of the items, or one kind of item from the Market Place, and then reselling them at a higher price then what they paid for. As a result a 2% Gold tax was added on every item sold in the Market Place in order to progressively Deflate the Inflation.
---PEOPLE---
Q: What is a "N00b"?
A: A new member or even and Old member that has had enough time to get to grips with everything and how things work here, but yet purposely dose irritable and annoying things that bother other users, mainly for attention. This is can lead to being banned. NOT to be confused with a Newbie. (if a user posts "STFU N00b!" to you or another person please report them immediately.)
Q: So then whats a "Newb" or "Newbie"?
A: A term used to describe a inexperienced user, gamer, a new member, a beginner, etc. And not to be confused with a N00b unless they wonder to the dark side by doing whats posted in the Q&A above this one.
Q: What is a "Troll"?
A: A "Troll" are users who intentionally posts messages or images in order to get people angry, to cause arguments, and to cause disruption in whatever discussion that was going on. There are also "Porn Trolls" who post pornographic images in threads, which is against Gaia's T.O.S., and a bannable offense. (if you come across a user who posting in such a way please report them immediately.)
Q: Whats a "Scammer"?
A: A "Scammer" is someone who is tries to trick you into revealing your personal information such as your Password and email address to them through a message. They do so by pretending to be a Moderator, a Developer, or an Administrator. A real Moderator/Developer/Administrator will NEVER ask for your password. NEVER give out your Password to anyone! Report anyone who asks you for your Password immediately!
Q: Whats a "Prommie"?
A: "Prommie" meaning "prominent" are users that get allot of recognition in the forums or in a particular forum and thus they become popular and gain social status. Some users dislike that some Prommie individuals become arrogant when they achieve this kind of social status.
Q: What is an a "Elitist"?
A: Much like a "Prommie" there are at times a select group of people that have shown outstanding personal abilities that gain much praise and attention. They usually have great wealth, and have specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes. This leads to other users to view these individuals to have the most weight in a discussion, or take them most seriously, with their views less then likely to be questioned. In some cases Elitists tend to believe that their knowledge on Gaia far exceeds the norm of the general population, and other users believe that they are better than much of the Gaian population.
Q: Whats "Grammar Nazi"?
A: It's a term used to describe someone who is adamant about the proper use of English grammar and spelling. The term "Nazi" is used to denote the strict harshness with which they adhere to the proper use of English grammar.
Q: Whats a "Mod"?
A: Mod's or "Moderators" are users like you and me, but were give privileges to Moderate the Forums to deal with spam and misplaced topics. And they assist users with issues such as Flaming, Scams, and other issues that relate to Gaia. ( All Moderators are listed in a link provided under each of the Forums tittle under "View Forum Moderators" )
Q: Whats a "Dev"?
A: Dev's are the "Developers" of Gaiaonlines features and systems.
Q: So then whats a "Admin"?
A: Admin's are the "Administrators" of Gaiaonline. They are the "Founding Fathers" or rather Parents who created the site. |

---HISTORY OF THE BATTLE SYSTEM---
A short summary on whats been going on with this system.
The Battle System has been the most talk about, and the most anticipated Feature since Gaia's original site "Go-Gaia" back in 2003. Every year the deadline for its arrival has been pushed back further growing even more and more interest and rumors.
On December 4th, 2006 an announcement was made reassuring us that the BS is on the way! So much insight on the Battle Systems setup could be taken from the teaser image provided in the announcement. This is what was said.
Quote: "Yes, we know that you've been waiting around forever for a glimpse of the Battle System. We've been talking about it for so long that you've probably resigned yourself to the idea that it will never really happen... Well guess what, buster!?" "Hey pal, do you know what that is? It's a screen shot that shows off concepts from our working demo of the GAIA BATTLE SYSTEM!""We've still got a long way to go, but we're making great progress! "
May 30th, 2007, At the Anime Expo more on the Battle System was discussed along with a few pictures of the introduction to the system. At the Exop more was reconfirmation that about Drop Items/Loot, more kinds of Rings, and the possibility of being able to exchange particular Drop Items for new or rare items.
July 2nd, 2007 An Announcement with two links, one revealed more the Battle Systems its workings in a Profile for Battle, along with a new Battle (MMO) Forum were Qixter shortly later added a Stickies, Qixter's Answer Thread

July 3nd, 2007 In addition to the Battle MMO Forum. a Rules and Guidelines Sticky was added in response to the overwhelming posts of Spam threads, Help threads not relating to the BS, Clan Threads, and topics on other MMO Games sites. Clan Threads were also given there own respective Suforum.
Qixter is the producer for this system, and two Developers working on this system are Truantduck and swarf. Other Dev's who's names are not yet known at this time are also working on this system, including members of the Artists Team. And Kaia9 who was helping out in the beginning, but need to work on other projects. Kaia9 is now back on working on this system.
July 31st, 2007 Qixter posted a link to another battle profile [NPC] Gaia Battle 2. It displayed a new Zen Garden area concept, a few more monsters, NPCs, and info on Crafting, the Rings, and Dazedness. O.O
November 8th, 2007. After a rocky start launching the official Gaia Battle Site, it was relaunched a day later with a Battle Overview, details on the Battle Gameplay, and unveiling much more art on the monsters and locations! Some of the info about the Rings original function was changed.
A contest in December was held in search for a proper name for the Battle System. Users could suggest one name to enter along with a short description about why they chose the name, and why they think it best suites the Battle System. The contest officially ended December 27, 2007 and the winner may be announced some time in January.
January 19th, 2008. Battle System Developer Qixter posted an announcement that a winner for the "Name the Game' contest will be posted soon, (perhaps in the Battle Update) and that there will be a Public Beta of the Battle System!
Though there is still no official launch date for the systems release yet, nor for the Public Beta.
