Not meaning to nitpick, but why is it that people would say chinese people go on asian BBS? I've noticed that people seem to refer to chinese people, and then group them with the rest of asia...

Shouldn't it be chinese people on chinese BBS?

Oh, I'd thought you meant that mainland chinese people would use BBS of their own because they wouldn't want to use an English one, hence them not using Gaia... sweatdrop

lol I know a guy from Hong Kong who is willing to beg to differ about that. He says he's from Hong Kong NOT China... but he hasn't really got his stories straight cause he refers to Hong Kong as China all the time.

Malay is not written with chinese characters although there is a large Chinese-Malaysian population in Malaysia, but I'm guessing they would count as chinese people.

Vietnam hasn't used chinese characters for almost 100 years now, so I guess the answer is no. xd

Anyway, even if they did use the same writing system, they probably wouldn't be able to understand chinese without learning the language. I mean, Dutch uses the same writing system as English, but I wouldn't go on a Dutch forum.

And about HK/China, most HKers will say that they are chinese, but not from China. I don't know anybody from HK who says they come from China. To be fair though, they probably were born during British rule.
