NOTE: Freethought and tolerance obviously prohibit these from being "commandments"! Just consider them "suggestions".

1. Thou SHALT NOT believe all thou art told.
2. Thou SHALT seek knowledge and truth constantly.
3. Thou SHALT educate thy fellow man in the Laws of Science.
4. Thou SHALT NOT forget the atrocities committed in the name of god.
5. Thou SHALT leave valuable contributions for future generations.
6. Thou SHALT live in peace with thy fellow man.
7. Thou SHALT live this one life thou hast to its fullest.
8. Thou SHALT follow a Personal Code of Ethics.
9. Thou SHALT maintain a strict separation between Church and State.
10. Thou SHALT support those who follow these commandments.

No offense, but I liked George Carlin's list better.

1.) Thou shalt always be honest and faithful.
2.) Thou shalt try really hard not to kill anyone.

In his words, "Two is all you need, Moses coulda carried 'em down the hill in his ********' pocket, and I would have no problem with those folks in Alabama putting it up in the courthouse, provided they added one additional commandment..."

3.) Thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself.

Oh, and God bless Joe Pesci. razz

I prefer the two, to the ten.

I know that one, the first one concludes with "~to the giver of thy nookie."

Yeah, I know, but then again, not everyone has a provider of nookie. His original intent was to be honest and faithful to everyone, earlier on in that act.

I'd go for all of them expedt #6. Time and time again we have learned that "peace" is an ideal. It doesn't really happen.

I think i heard it on a movie... but this saying does have a truthful ring to it:

"Peace is nothing but the time in between wars" And i would add to it... even if it sounds redundant: "where the old wars forgotten and new ones are brewed"

Peace is a distant, but attainable goal. It is not just an ideal. It won't be until we can abandon the idea that war is an eternal necessity, though, that we can move forward and achieve that goal.

I do like these more than the 10 commandments, but I really don't care. It's all common sense

Considering what most of the past wars were about... I think we cannot live in peace until religion is erradicated.

I don't know about eradication. The soviets tried that. It's impossible to take the people's religion from them. Entirely, at least.

What would work better is to simply take away it's seat in science and politics. That much can eventually be done without outrage, and then, needless bloodshed and hatred.

You'd be surprised to find how many people genuinely lack common sense. My brother is one of them. He's not religious, he just has a tendency to be dishonest a lot of the time...he's a really bad liar, too razz
