Soggy pizza and apple juice, Sit calmly on my lap, As I crawl into the abandoned restroom, Close the door and latch the lock. No one hears me, no one listens, Silently sobbing, all alone. Pizza and apple juice into the trash, My stomach disagrees, but I ignore it. As I walk out into the world, I pull my smile out of my smile out of my pocket, And stick it on as I approach my class. I have no friends, but it would appear that I do, My smile lies for me, wordless, motionless.
Group projects, not again, Rush away from the girl in the corner, Odd-numbered classes, they’re the worst, Embarrassing sympathy from the teacher.
I open the box and look inside, Band-Aid brand, self-adhesive smiles, Only a few left, I’ve got to restock, But my bitter money is running low
So I re-enter the stall and lock the lock, And look sorrowfully at the wastebasket, Toss in my smiles, And something arises, A real smile. No tape, No glue, Just happiness.
