Adventures in Insanity

Chapter 3: Evil of the Heart

Lunei whimpered when the sun reached her eyes and curled up deep into her sleeping bag. Mornings… What a drag… She blinked when she realized that she felt a little more secure, safe. Her eyes fluttered open and she poked her head out of her sleeping bag, blushing furiously to herself.
Lion was sleeping right next to her and his face snuggled up so that it was resting against her chest. He was purring lightly and his tails flickered around happily.
Lunei was momentarily stunned, then relaxed a bit, just watching him. What should I do? I don’t wanna wake him up… she thought to herself worriedly. He looks so peaceful in his sleep… way different then when he’s awake from what I can tell… She smiled faintly, carefully getting out of the sleeping bag so she wouldn’t disturb Lion’s sleep.
(In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the lion sleeps tonight X3 sorry, couldn’t help myself! Back to the story!)
Pohkii was awake and cooking breakfast while Shark was asleep in his tree.
“Oh! Good morning!” she said happily. “How are you feeling today??”
Lunei shrugged. “Better, I suppose.” She said, putting on her glasses quietly.
Pohkii smiled. “That’s good.” She said happily. “The other two are still asleep so you better eat before they wake up. There’ll be a feeding frenzy.” She handed Lunei a plate of food. “Shark and Lion were watching you for most of the night. That must be why they’re so tired…”
“I’m not tired… and I wasn’t sleeping. I was resting my…” he paused for a moment to yawn. “… Eye lids.”
Lunei rolled her eyes as she ate. “Sure Shark, whatever you say…” she ate her breakfast silently though she didn’t look too happy.
Pohkii blinked. “Is something wrong, Lunei-chan?” she asked curiously.
Lunei blinked. “No, I’m fine… I’m just thinking is all…” she said with a reassuring smile. “Please, don’t worry about me.”
Pohkii nodded. “Alright… if you say so…” she murmured.
Shark didn’t seem too convinced either, but decided not to push it.
“UWAHHHHHHH!!!” Lion yawned as he got up and stretched in a feline-like fashion. “Good morning!” he said happily.
Lunei smiled. “Good morning, Lion-kun.”
Lion’s ears perked up. “Lunei-chan!!” he yelled, tackling her and hugging her tightly. “How are you feeling?? Better, yes??”
Lunei blushed furiously. “Y-yes, I feel much better…” she said with a smile. “Thank you so much for taking care of me. Both of you.”
Lion blushed faintly, then grinned. “It was no problem. I mean, I wanted to be sure you were okay… since… well…” he stuttered, blushing more.
Shark shrugged. “Whatever… Just don’t do that again…” he grumbled.
Lunei got a sweat bead on the back of her head while Lion got an anime vein. “The least you could say is ‘I’m happy you’re feeling better’.” Lion grumbled.
Pohkii giggled. “That’s how he means it… in his own special way of course.” She said, hugging Shark and making him blush furiously.
Lunei laughed. “I don’t mind really.” She assured Lion.
Lion was about to protest, but nodded. “Okay… Are you sure it’s fine? ‘Cause it’s not good to treat a girl like that…” he said softly.
Lunei nodded. “It’s fine. I’ve learned not to offend easily.” She said with a nod. “Besides, if I did take offense, I could handle it. I am a werewolf after all.” She gave him a small wink.
Lion blushed faintly. “Well, okay. If you’re sure…” he said. “But if he makes you cry, I will not forgive him!!”
Lunei got a sweat bead again. Well… he made me cry once if I recall, but I don’t have to say anything about that…” she thought with a nervous smile. “O-okay than.” She said softly.
Lion grinned and hugged Lunei tightly. “You’re so cute!!” he said happily, nuzzling his cheek against hers. “I can’t wait until we start traveling!!”
“What?!” Shark growled. “That thing is coming with us?!”
Lion snarled lightly. “Who’re you calling a thing, thing…?” he grumbled.
“Weren’t you listening yesterday, Shark?” Pohkii asked. “He knows the general area of the exit to Insanity, so he’ll be coming with us.”
Shark blinked. “I don’t remember you saying he could…”
Lunei blinked as well. “Yeah we did. You said ‘Lets just hope you don’t have a crappy sense of direction’.” She explained. “Then you guys fought and I yelled at you to stop, and then I passed out… Remember?”
Shark blinked again. “That’s how it happened? Really?” he asked.
Lion sighed. “Go back and read the last chapter, moron!”
Shark growled. “Don’t call me a moron, you little dog toy!”
“I’m not a dog toy!” Lion snarled back. “You’re such a girly man!!”
“Alright! That’s it! He’s lost his reproductive privileges!!” Shark bellowed.
“GUYS!!” Pohkii yelled. “Cut it out! You scared Lunei away…”
Lion’s ears drooped. “Oh no! Lunei-chaaaan!!!” he called, running off into the forest. “I’m sorry Hime-chan!!”
Shark got a sweat bead on the back of his head, as did Pohkii.
“Well, we got ride of those two.” Shark said with a shrug, lighting up a cigarette quietly. “Let’s go home.
Pohkii gave him a look. “Shark, we’re not abandoning them.” She said bluntly.
“I’m not risking my a** for some idiots I don’t even know.” He snapped.
Pohkii flinched. “Fine. You can go home@ See if I care!” she growled, slapping Shark, then jetting off into the forest. “Wait! Pohkii, I—“ Shark tried to say, but she had already run off.
“…Perfect…”

About a mile away from the campsite, Lunei was trudging off towards where she thought would be the exit to Insanity. “Stupid Shark… Stupid insanity… stupid, stupid, stupid…” she grumbled, sniffling lightly to herself.
“HIME-CHAN!!!” a familiar voice cried as someone pounced on her, causing her to her to tumble back a couple feet. “Oro…” she murmured with swirly eyes.
“Hime-chan, I’m sorry…” whispered Lion who was resting on top of Lunei and hugging her tightly. “Please don’t cry…” he was panting lightly from running around all over the place to find her.
Lunei was blushing furiously. “Lion-kun…?”
“I broke my promise to you… I fought with that weird girly man… and I promised that I wouldn’t.” Lion mumbled, wrapping his arms around her tightly and helping her sit up so that her head rested against his chest. “Please forgive me, Hime-chan…”
Lunei was frozen, not exactly sure about what to do. “It’s fine… I … uh…” she stuttered
“But you ran off all by yourself…” Lion pointed out. “It obviously wasn’t fine…” He gently placed a hand on her cheek. “And you’re crying…”
Lunei went beat red. “I… uh… I had something in my eye… I’m fine…” she assured him.
Lion was about to say something else, when Pohkii ran up, tripping over Lion, causing him to fly forward on top of Lunei while Pohkii flew into a nearby tree.
“Ah! Hime-chan!!” Lion said worriedly, picking her up quickly.
“Ah! I’m so sorry!” Pohkii cried running over to them.
“I-it’s alright…” Lunei said shakily. “Anyway, what’s wrong, Pohkii-chan? You look sad… and where’s Shark?”
Pohkii frowned at the mention of Shark. “Well…I don’t think he’ll be joining us… on our quest…” she mumbled.
Lion blinked in surprise, though in a bit of happy shock. “He’s not??” he asked.
Pohkii shook her head. “It doesn’t look like it…”
Lunei frowned. “Is it because of me…?” she asked quietly.
Pohkii blinked. “Why would you think that?” she asked.
“I’m not sure… but it feels like it was my fault….” He murmured.
Lion frowned a bit. “It would never be your fault, Hime-chan.”
“But I—“
Before she could finish what she was saying, there was a screech and a bunch of trees suddenly started to fall over them. Pohkii jumped out of the way while Lion scooped up Lunei into his arms and flitted away.
The one responsible was a huge creature that had weird legs that were made of two sticks with two joints for knees and it’s arms looked as if they were paper. It’s head looked like a tower on its shoulders.
“What is that?!” Lunei asked in surprise.
Lion shook his head. “No time to explain, got to fight it off!” he said, grabbing his club, putting on his mask, then charging at the creature.
Pohkii also charged at the creature with her scythe.
Lunei looked around worriedly. She had to help them. She didn’t have any weapons to use so how was she supposed to help?
“Lunei! Catch!” called a familiar voice from above. A small bundle fell from the canopy of the forest they were in which Lunei caught. She glanced up to see who had dropped it and it was none other than Shark, a faint smile on his face.
Lunei smiled faintly as well and undid the bundle. It was a black gun with 3 barrels in it. Her eyes went wide. “Shark! I can’t use this!! Are you insane?!”
Shark rolled his eyes. “Don’t be such a baby. Just pull back that thingy, then pull the trigger. The thing’ll be down in seconds.”
Lunei blinked and did as she was told. She aimed at the creature then shot the gun. Her aim was a bit off so she nearly hit Shark and Pohkii. “Hey! Watch it!” Shark snapped while Pohkii yelped.
“Well, sorry! I don’t know how to work this thing…!!” she snapped. Lunei then made sure her aim was on target this time and pulled the trigger. The bullets hit the creature right between the eyes. It screeched in pain, falling backwards and making other trees fall over.
“Whoo!” Pohkii yelled happily. “Go Lunei-chan!”
Lion grinned. “I know you could do it, Hime-chan!!”
Lunei blushed faintly. “Well…”
Shark sighed faintly. “She needs a bit of work, but alright…”
Lion growled. “What do you mean she needs work/!” he snapped. “She did great!”
Pohkii giggled lightly while Lion just gave an embarrassed smile.
Pohkii walked up to Shark. “I thought you said that you weren’t coming with us…?” she said slyly.
Shark blushed. “Well, I couldn’t just let you idiots travel alone…”
“Who’re you callin’ an idiot?! You better not be talking about my Hime-chan!” Lion growled.
“So what if I am?” asked Shark with a tone that said he didn’t care.
“I’ll kill you!!” Lion roared.
“Cut it out you guys!!” Pohkii snapped. Lunei had a worried expression on her face.
Lion blushed and looked down. “Sorry Hime-chan…” he murmured.
Lunei blushed, then smiled gently. “Really, it’s fine…” she assured them. “You guys didn’t get hurt did you?”
Shark shook his head, as did Pohkii and Lion.
“Thank goodness!” Lunei said, sounding relieved
Shark sighed. “Well, we better get going… We’ve got a long journey ahead of us…” he said.
Lunei nodded. “Yeah, lets go.” She agreed. Lion smiled and started to go in the direction of the exit, pulling Lunei beside him. Shark and Pohkii followed after the two. Finally the real journey began.
