(Yeah, this is an Otakon journal entry. x3 Maybe later I'll write one that's more coherent and detailed...)
Okay, so we went to Otakon. And, you know, it was awesome, as always.
I mean, we chit-chatted with Jakobo.
We met Pie and Arte and a whole bunch of really awesome people.
We saw a girl dressed up as Axel playing the piano.
We took pictures of beautiful people in beautiful costumes.
We’ve only gone through Friday and Saturday so far. And everybody needs to hear about it.
Saturday night. Rave. Freaking awesome. X0
It was hot and sweaty, and normally I don’t dig that, but…well, the glowsticks may have influenced me. Or maybe it was the beautiful shirtless guy. It’s hard to tell. But…we had a crazy idea.
It was so crazy, it actually just might work.
We started…a Conga line. There were originally six people, and we felt pretty dumb, because we didn’t think anybody would join a six-person Conga line started by some crazy teenagers.
But they did. Our Conga line got freaking HUGE! It was so amazingly awesome, and we actually got to the point where we could just do a 180-turn and walk by people from our own line! We started high-fiving them, actually. And then somebody made us disband, so Georgi (Neko-chan’s cousin), Tori, Nao, and I left the rave to go sit with Ashen and Pie and Arte in the hallway. And we just talked for a while. And then the guy from the LARP who was playing Seymour came and sat with us, and we just talked some more.
And Georgi (our new buddy! <33 She’s really embracing this whole Otakon thing. >w< ) started asking people for high-fives. She said she just wanted to make people smile, and she definitely did. And then somebody ran around the circle and gave all of us high-fives.
And thus, the High-Fivers (High-5-ers?) were born.
One of the first people to do a high-five circle was the water-jug guy (don’t know his name), who then asked if he could come and sit with us, and we said sure.
By the end of the night, our circle had probably expanded to about fifteen people, with Racer X as our mascot (that cosplayer was so fun!) and smut cards as legal tender. Five rounds around the circle earn you a smut card! (They were freebies. = 3= We ran out eventually. Lots of people wanted smut cards.)
But the end was definitely the best part. We had expanded to a group of screaming otaku (and I would say that we were otaku right then, if not before or after), attracting lots of attention. People actually took videos and stuff of the passersby who gave us high-fives, and us! Soooo cool! X0 And then, right at the very end, there was just this continuous flurry of high-fiving people, running outside and inside our circle
I can’t even really explain how amazingly awesome it was. We attracted a lot of attention, considering that we had started out as eight people (Nao, Tori, Georgi, Rob, Pie, Arte, Seymour, and me) hanging out after a rave.
All the other little fun things:
I LARPed as Misa Amane, and I pretty much immediately got wrapped up in all this craziness. I was convinced to try to kill somebody (tried and failed, but there was still a big event), I loaned out my Death Note to the guy playing Xellos, I joined the side of “good” (AKA screaming evil! x0 )…and Seymour from FFX kept trying to make me marry him.
When we went to the Dealer’s Room, I got a new Ouran Host Club wallet, a Japanese manga called Blue Dragon from the same artist who did Death Note, another Japanese manga called .hack//Alcor, and Death Note volume 13: How to Read. (Homigawd. –fangirl-)
I made friends! There was Aizen (Bleach) and Johann Liebert (Monster), both of whom helped me out a lot and let me tag along with them like a little lost puppy. And there was Pie, who was Light, and there was Seymour, and Syaoran, and Xellos, lots of people! <3
It’s just…everything was amazing. I’m totally going to post (most of) the pictures and videos I took. xD
In short: Otakon was made of win, more than ever before (with levels over 9000!), and with any luck, next year will be even better! x0
