I just finished watching a movie called MirrorMask. It's one that I had never heard of, until recently, but it was made back in 2005. Right away, I knew it would be good, before I even read anything about it. I mean, any movie that Jim Henson is involved in, is a good one, right?
Anyway, the movie is about a young girl who basically lives in the circus. Her parents, friends and of course, herself are all performers. She wishes she could run away from the circus life and be a "normal girl", while her mom tells her that all the other kids want to run away from their normal lives, to join the circus. Turns out that her mother becomes ill and hospitalized during one of their shows and the young girl constantly blames herself, since she was fighting with her mother earlier that day. She ends up dreaming of another world, but after a while she isn't sure if she's really dreaming or not.
Before I watched this movie, reviews I read said this movie was possibly better than The Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal (two older excellent Jim Henson movies). If I was to put these three films into a favorite order, I honestly don't think I could. All three are about equal to each other, in my opinion. So if you loved The Labyrinth or The Dark Crystal, this is a must see. If you haven't seen either of those movies, but like odd/weird movies, this is still a must see.
