I know I already made a post regarding the untimely death of Hawthorne Heights guitarist Casey Calvert, but there are a few things I forgot to say that I need to get off my chest.
I'm a moderator on Hawthorne Heights' official forum (that meaning, that I delete porn/spam/etc, keep the peace, etc etc etc), and after the announcement came that Casey passed away, the forum was immediately flooded with posts. In the beginning they were mostly mourning his loss and supporting who's left of the band, as well as Casey's widowed wife, Ashley. I paid my respects and logged off. That's when everything started.
I logged on Sunday morning to see what kind of messages I was going to see, and I figured the forum would be still flooded with RIP posts from supportive fans (even some who weren't fans, but wanted to pay their respects). Instead, it was much worse. A horde of trolls from 4chan and Ebaumsworld flooded every subforum with hurtful, disrespectful messages saying "Yay, Casey's dead" or something about Mudkips, black people, bestiality, and anything else they find humorous. A fellow moderator tried to lock all the troll messages, but she was hacked and the hacker unlocked all the posts which sent the forum straight to hell.
The following Monday, the forum admin (which I'm sure is their drummer, Eron) posted a message calling out the trolls for their disrespect, using the untimely death of an innocent man, who just so happened to play in an "emo" band, as fodder for their ridiculous, redundant "jokes". IPs were banned, and the forum was closed until further notice, for Casey.
Here's where my problem lies: trolls. In some sense, they're kinda funny, but there's a point where they cross the line. Here, the line was crossed, taking advantage of the fact that Casey was dead to raid the forum and harass fans. These are people who just "do it for the lulz." It makes me absolutely sick how you people get such a kick out of seeing people suffer during a time like this. If you knew Casey for the person he was, you might've been a little more respectful. Instead, you feel the need to be a jerk and laugh about it. As Eron said in his post, you are truly "the worst that humanity has to offer." Treat others the way you want to be treated. You want respect? Well, this is no way to get it. Grow the ******** up.
For those of you with heart, thank you for restoring my faith in humanity. Seeing these people act makes me die a little inside sometimes.
