“Just think,” She smiled at me, “In a week it’s Christmas!”
My heart sank.
The words it’s Christmas echoed threw my head.
“A week.” I repeated softly.
I guess, I won’t be celebrating Christmas with you, mom. I thought as tears kept running down my face.
“Don’t worry,” She whispered, “I’ll try to get you back home.”
I looked up at her with a small smile.
“Thank you.” I said and wiped my tears away.
About an hour later Bob came in the kitchen and saw us laughing and having a good time.
“What is all this?” He asked snappishly.
“We’re just talking.” Bob’s wife Grinned.
Bob walked towards us quickly and slapped her.
“Kira! You cannot get attached to this, this thing!”
“Excuse Me! I am not a THING!” I shouted and stood up.
“SHUT UP AND SIT DOWN!” Bob said and pushed me in the chair.
“Bob! Stop it! You cannot treat a child like this! You should be put in jail!” Kira yelled.
He slapped her again.
“What did you say?” He sounded scary like and his face turned red.
Kira just looked away.
“Look at me when I’m talking to you!” Bob snapped.
Kira still didn’t look.
Finally Bob grabbed her by the collar and pulled her close to his face.
“I Said Look At Me When I Am Talking To You!”
Kira was to scared to move.
All of a sudden he let the collar of her shirt go.
She fell and hit her head on the table.
Bob left the room.
“Kira.” I whispered.
I slowly helped her up.
The back of her head was all bloody.
That must have hurt! I thought, then looked at her.
When I looked at her cheeks, there were streams of tried tears running down them.
I looked in her eyes and saw tears.
“Kira,” I said, “I’m so sorry.”
“It’s not your fault, it’s mine.”
“But you didn’t do anything.”
“But I did.” She paused.
“I stood up for you.”
I felt crushed. I thought she was on my side! Well, I guess not.
Kira slowly walked out of the kitchen.
So now what do I do? I have no way of escaping if Kira didn’t help, great! I thought.
“Trever…” I said and slumped down in the chair.
Then I heard something…car, no. Bird, no. It was faint and hard to make out. But then I heard it clear as day!
Barking.
“Trever!” I said and ran quietly to the door.
“Where exactly are you going?”
Bob.
“Umm…”
“You weren’t thinking of escaping were you?”
I shook my head, “Umm…No sir.”
“Then what where you doing? Huh?”
“Just looking.” I smiled sweetly and unlatched the lock behind my back.
“Oh? For what? A police car? Perhaps?” He grinned.
“No, I wanted to look at the snow.”
“Well the snow is gonna be there ALL Winter.” He snapped and got up.
I slowly opened the door a crack.
He was walking towards me.
Then I noticed Trever out on the street, so I quickly opened the door the rest of the way and ran out.
The door slammed from the wind and I heard it open again.
Heavy footsteps followed me.
I looked back and Bob was running after me.
“Trever!” I called and noticed he was still wearing his leash.
I quickly grabbed his leash and ran down the road.
“You, Girl!! Stop!” Bob yelled.
“I don’t wanna have to use this!”
I saw it. Black and shiny.
It was another gun.
