It was a beautiful day despite the cold month we recently had and the one that was up ahead. “The calm before the storm.” Some might say in regards to this spring like weather in the middle of winter. Yes, the sunny sky, and the warm breeze was odd but instead of enjoying this rarity I found myself locked in my office afraid that this exceptionally good weather was a trick to try to lure me outside so I could face my problem. I took a deep breath and sighed.
“I WANT TO SPEAK TO THE OWNER!!!” Was the first thing I heard when I crept out of my office, I quickly tried to retreat to my haven but it was too late. “Fine! There he is!!!” Jupiter pronounced taking off her apron and throwing it at me as she marched upstairs. “The hell?” I thought for a moment before I was called upon. “What kind of people do you have working for you Mr. Hawk?” A red haired teen asked in frustration making her way to me. She had amber-golden and a fair skin tone with cute little canines peeking out her mouth and a pair of fox ears atop her head to match. “She is uh… she can get a little cranky sometimes.” I confessed scratching the back of my head remembering the last few times we saw each other she was a bit tempered. “So… how can I help you?” “I was sent here.” She quietly admitted lowering her head. “I’ve been in some trouble lately and I need protection.” Suddenly she grabbed me the collar and pulled me closer to her face. “You can protect an innocent girl can’t you?” I gulped as I felt my pores bleed perspiration. “You better not be trying to kiss my little sister Hawk.” A deep voice roared from the entrance. I quickly jumped back pushing her away before I realized who it was. “Setto?”
“Akari I only sent you so you can stay out of trouble, not get in deeper trouble with Hawk.” The bounty hunter reminded his younger sibling. I gave him the “What on Earth do you mean?” look and she glared at me before turning sharply to face her brother. “You always ruin everything Setto!” she exclaimed pushing him out of the way as she exited the building. The dark assassin chuckled under his brim hat patting me on both of my shoulders. “So it’s true, you’re alive.” I nodded remembering that the last time we spoke was before I faked my death. I soon told him what had happened and caught him up on what had been going around the bar and he informed me on what had been keeping him busy. “I joined an Assassin group called ANBU.” He told me taking the mix liquor I specially made for him, a Hawk’s a** Kicking of course. “While I was training at the headquarters I ran into an old friend of ours, Croix Coldheart.” I immediately took my eyes off of my drink and stared into my compadre’s mismatched pupils. “The last time I encountered him I stay up for a month in fear of him killing everyone at the bar, I told you about that, I also told you that he found out about us and you should be careful.” My partner laughed and shook his head. “He didn’t follow me; he was there for my friend who I guess was seeing him at the time. Anyways they got in a fight and he attacked so I retaliated.” I stared at him harder as the conversation became more intriguing. “I put up a pretty good fight but if he didn’t flee when the other ANBU members showed up I would have died.” Setto took off his hat and ran his fingers through his long black hair. “He’s not what everyone thinks of him, he has weaknesses and he can be beatten. I could go after him myself but I know two men are better than one.” For the first time through out the meeting he locked eyes with me. “If we want to make a name for ourselves here’s opportunity, this is it.” After a few more shots he left and I smiled as my mind went to work on this new game of chess with Croix and how I would put him in checkmate…
