Once there was a baby with the name Reckless. Her parents thought it was a cool and original name for a little girl. The nurses thought the parents were weird. But who were they to judge? Her hair was blue and her eyes green. When she was born her white skin shone brightly for days, but that was mostly expected for new born babies. Only one thing was unusual about her. For the first few seconds of her life, her eyes glowed red.
The sun streamed through her circular window. Reckless groaned as it hit her closed eyes. Music suddenly came on beside her bed. She rolled over and slammed her hand on the radio alarm clock. Her mother knocked on her door. “Reckless, honey, wake up. It’s time for school!” Reckless groaned again as she pushed herself up out of bed. Her closet door opened automatically as she walked slowly over to it. Yawning, she grabbed a black shirt and a pair of yellow snake skin jeans. “Boots.” She grumbled. A pair of boots flew out from under her bed. After she had gotten dressed, she slid on her boots.
Her mother was sitting at the breakfast table munching on some fried crickets and drinking some liquid rocks. Reckless glanced at the transporter. It would be ready to go in exactly one minute. “Have a good day at school,” her mother said as Reckless quickly got her school bag and swiped a few crickets from her mother’s plate. She stepped into the transporter. “Goodbye mo-“she tried to say as the machine whisked her away to school.
There he was. Hunched over his bag, searching for something. She silently ran up to him and gave him a hug from behind. Reckless felt Shane go stiff as the surprise went through him. “Good morning darling!” she said brightly as he turned to face her. “Good morning.”He said in his usually muttering way. He sat down on the floating bench. Reckless joined him playing with his long fire red hair. “So how are you this morning?” she asked, putting her chin on his shoulder. “Fine I guess, just tired.” Shane scooted down a little and put his head on her lap. His eyes closed as she braided his hair. Shane looks so peaceful, Reckless thought as she looked down at him, her eyes filled with love. B-R-R-R-I-I-I-N-N-N-G-G-G, the bell went. His yellow cat eyes popped open. Shane gave her a smile and poked her shoulder. She poked him back. “Poke fight!” they yelled together and started poking each other very fast. Shane won but only because he started tickling her. “Cheater!” Reckless said breathlessly as he stopped. She looked around, everyone was already inside. And that meant they were late. “Crap,” she muttered.
Shane and Reckless stood up together. When they started walking, Reckless grabbed Shane’s hand and put her fingers between his. He walked her to her first class, the only one she had without him. He gave her a quick kiss then jogged off to his class. Reckless stared after him until he disappeared from her sight. Then she turned and entered her Earthlings 101 class. “Well look who finally decided to not be an Earthling and come to class,” her teacher, Mrs. Lunner, barked at her. Reckless glided past her, not hearing and not caring about her monstrous worm of a teacher. She sat in her seat as Mrs. Lunner resumed her lesson. Reckless looked forward to her next class which was Power Training. Not only was it an interesting class, it had Shane. The only bad thing about it was it was taught by Mrs. Lunner and she had to demonstrate today in front of the whole class. What was her power you ask? She had no idea.
Reckless had been passing this month solely because of Shane. He had many different powers. And the fact he could do it at a distance was a great help.
