This type of thinking will do us in. Part I. |

And I'm not sure what its name is or the band who wrote it/sang it. But it makes a pretty prefound point.
Humanity is ******** up.
The word "community" is now so plastic (And by plastic I mean shallow, fake, see through), it squeaks. Even on the internet which seems to several the only safe haven in this crazy world, even the online community is horrid.
To put it simply, Majority. Rules. And us little people have to sit around let ourselves be bunched into little catagories or groups.
There are two types of online communities. Forum communities and Online Games/MMORPG communities.
In a Forum community, intelligence, an eye for grammatical detail, and the ability to carry an arguement or conversation gains you respect. In a Online Game community, fast reflexes, rare items, and wealth gains you respect. Both online communities reflect the one community we take part in in the real world. Where there are those who are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, never have to work/work very hard for anything, and usually get away with anything. Then there are those who arn't as lucky, work thier a** off like DOGS, have to work very hard for what they NEED instead of WANT.
This brings me to my first question;
What is the reaction if someone from a priveledged background were to find himself in a less glamorous enviroment?
Now both in their respective enviroments, they both get respect, but let's say Richie Rich where to go into Peter Poor's enviroment, he wouldn't exactly get the same ammount of respect or attention he would get back home, same with Johnny Poor. What's the first thing you think of when you hear about the rich kid at school? He (And by he I mean both genders) is probably popular (due to his wealth), shallow, materialistic, and so forth. If you don't have the same background as he does, you probably dislike him.
This brings me to my second question;
Is it possible if we were to stop thinking so stereotypically, that Richie Rich and Johnny Poor could be friends?
Yes, it is possible, but we don't do it. Why? Because we're USED to the idea that anyone who is DIFFERENT than us is LESSER than us. And then the stereotypical image of a certain catagory is plastered on the personality of an individual. And all of us CONFORM to this way of thinking. That's why we will often times be right about each other.
For example;
Richie Rich has just moved to a new town, it's smaller and not as luxurious as his last home. Johnny Poor hears about Richie Rich, and there's a large chance that when he hears the word "rich" or "wealthy" he will come up with the stereotype that I just mentioned before. (Shallow, materialistic, etc) Also, Richie Rich will think that Johnny Poor will automatically reject him, so therefore he will reject Johnny Poor before Johnny Poor can reject him. So not only is Johnny automatically assuming that Richie Rich is materialistic and shallow, but Richie Rich is preparing himself to prove Johnny right. Richie thinks, "since he already thinks I'm gonna be this way, there's no point in being myself because he'll probably still hate me. So I'll just conform by acting the way Johnny thinks I'll act."
This brings me to my third question;
"Is there a way to stop this type of thinking in a group or community".
Yes there is, but often times we don't. Now, since what I was originally talking about communities and groups, let's position this situation into the mindset of a hive. You've heard of a bee hive right? There's on Queen bee and thousands of Worker bees. The Workers will always obey the Queen. The same thing in a social situation such as Johnny and Richie's. Let's place Johnny as the Queen bee of six or seven other kids. Now these kids like Johnny, they have subconsiously made Johnny the leader of this inner circle. They will do what he wants to do most of the time, try not to displease him but not look like wimps while doing so, and often times agreeing and imitating his thoughts or emotions torwards someone.
Will the group follow Johnny's assumption of Richie? Stay tuned for my next vent. Coming when I get my a** whupped at anything.
