“Mornin’, Kit,” Kuma said as I entered the kitchen. “Sleep well?”
“I miss my bed,” I muttered, rubbing my eyes.
“You can take it back if ya want. I’ll be fine on the couch.”
“I wouldn’t be a very good hostess if I did that.” I took an apple from the fruit bowl.
“Then we’ll share,” Kuma said casually as if what he said had very little meaning.
I almost choked on the apple. “W-what? No way, my cousins would never go for that!”
“You’ve got a choice, Kit. You can share your nice, comfy bed with me, or you can continue to sleep on the couch. That’s gotta be uncomfortable.” He smiled.
I sighed. “Fine, we’ll share. Just keep your paws to yourself.”
“Yes, ma’am. Now, if we don’t go, we’ll be late.”
Akaru came rushing in, fixing his tie. “Let’s go!” he said, before rushing out the door.

Neko and Akaru ate lunch alone together, laughing and talking. “They’re so cute together,” Rin said. She had actually joined us for lunch today.
“Alright, since it’s almost Valentine’s Day, it’s time to pick our Secret Sweethearts,” Yamazaru said, holding a brown paper bag. “You guys know the rules!”
“Sorry, but Kuma, Akaru, and I, don’t,” I said.
“It’s pretty simple,” Rin said. “You choose a name from the bag and you have to get a gift for that person. Of course, you can’t choose yourself. That’s kinda obvious.”
“So basically, I just have to buy something for whoever I pick.”
“Pretty much,” Yamazaru said. “And if you don’t get them anything by Valentine’s Day, you’ve gotta take ‘em on a date.”
“And the whole school is doing this?”
“Just us, Kitsuki,” Tori said. “We do it every year.”
“Guess I’ll join in,” I said.
“Same here,” Kuma said.
Yamazaru held out the paper bag and we each took a slip of paper. Some groaned about who they got and others giggled. I sighed and opened my paper. I quickly glanced at Yamazaru, who had gone to let Akaru and Neko choose their papers. I sighed. ‘Guess I’ve got no choice,’ I thought. ‘Looks like he’s my Secret Sweetheart. Now what the Hell am I gonna get him?’
“Who’d you get?” Rin said behind me.
“You’ll find out on Valentine’s Day,” I muttered, hiding my paper quickly.
“Aw, okay.” She ran over to Neko and Akaru to pester them.
I sighed and stood up. I pulled out my MP3 player and put the earphones in. I scrolled through the sings and chose the one that Baka sung yesterday. I sat alone the wall and closed my eyes. My ears twitched as someone sat next to me. I opened my eyes and saw a boy with blue hair and white tiger ears and tail had sat down next to me. I paused my song and asked, “Who the Hell are you?”
“I could ask you the same thing,” he said with a smile. “And that was kinda rude.”
“Excuse me?”
“It’s common courtesy to give your name before asking someone else’s.”
I growled. “I’m Kit. Now just tell me your name.”
“Kane, at your service.” He smiled.
“Hmph.” I pushed play again and ignored the tiger-boy for the rest of the lunch period.
