Shira stretched, and yawned. Late afternoon in late greenleaf was her's and many other cat's favorite time, and it was her first day as a warrior. Yesterday, she and her friend, Hana, had made the change from training-kits, to warriors. A few of her clowder-mates had been against it. She hadn't quite gotten her balance back, after she'd lost about half her tail to a wild dog. Shira stretched again, and leapt off the rock, stumbling slightly.
"Watch it," murmured Koryo. The old warrior looked up from his nap. Shira nodded and decided to find Scaide. Her older sister always had something to do. She knew the older she-cat had been on the afternoon patrol, but she hadn't heard from her since. "Senni!" Shira called. Senni was one of Scaide's best friends, and would probably know where she was.
"Yeah?" The sturdy tabby looked up from the mouse she was eating.
"Do you know where Scaide is?" Shira asked. "With Ariya," Senni replied, taking another bite of mouse. Shira's navy eyes widened. "Is she alright?"
The older warrior laughed. "Don't worry. She tore a claw while she was running after a rabbit. That's all."
Shira forced herself to laugh too. "Thanks." The young she-cat struggled through the vines and brambles that the other cats navigated so easily. She'd never been as graceful as she should be, and the loss of her tail made it worse.
"Scaide! Ariya!" She called. The soft-spoken medicine cat looked up from treating the other she-cat's claw. "Hi Shira," she mewed. Scaide looked up too. "Hey!"
"So," Shira asked. "What do you wanna do when that's done?"
Scaide's ears perked up. "We could train, or race, or..."
"Or take it easy." Ariya finished. "Wait until your claw heals before you do anything like that."
The brown warrior scowled. "Fine." Her gaze brightened as she turned to her sister. "I'm tired anyway. Let's share a rabbit, and talk about stuff."
"Like cute tomcats?" Shira grinned. Her sister shrugged. "Fine."
Shira purred as they left the medicine cat's den.
