The long forgotten lore of my life
When I feel like it I'll update with my thoughts, views, nonsensical ramblings or events. Just another look into my chaotic enough life. I never know what's going to happen.
Of painted ponies and grisly skulls
Sunday, June 01:

Quite frankly, I think this is a new record- me posting an entry on the first day of the new month. Anyway, just a quickie update on how things are flowing.

Well, my first My Little Pony custom "conversion" is about 90% done. Mom wanted the first pony to be done for her, and I told her to map out what she wanted. Using the 2007 model Royal Bouquet, I completely redid it. The original body was yellow, with an fugly as hell flower decal on it's one haunch (it looked as if a child haphazardly drew it on). The mane and tail was a bright pink with lighter pink hue highlights. The eyes were green and yellow.

Now, most of the pony mom didn't want changed. In fact, this first pony done doesn't have re-rooting, which will actually be saved for my Celtic heritage pony. Anyway, she wanted to keep the eye color and mane and tail color. Using acetone I let it eat away at the symbol, completely erasing it (only took a few minutes). Using high artist quality acrylic paint (with a touch of water), I completely painted over the pallid yellow body. The color and hue is a gorgeous hunter green- so dark that it really brings out the green and yellow swirled eyes.

I must admit, at first I wanted to puke at the thought of a green pony with pink hair. Still, after seeing it so far, I have to say that was the BEST choice she could have made!! The pink really stands out against the dark green body, and it brightens the shadowed hues, bringing the features out a lot more. She wanted ivy curling up at least one leg, but I managed to paint it on both of the "display side" legs. Tomorrow I have to finish by having one vine curling up into a stem on it's haunch, releasing a hand painted rose or something. She also wants a pink small jewel glued to the forehead of the little creation.

Now... that's been going on for a few days. Let me tell you about today and tonight!

So, starting off, I worked from 10:30 to 8:30. Doing the math... yeah, that's a lot of hours right there. I was drained, tired, but happy. However, the day was pretty turbulent to begin with. I had the weirdest things happening all day.

By four or so I was beat, quite literally. I was looking forward to getting off when a familiar face walked through the doors the store. Billy! He had just gotten done biking for a while and wanted a Gatorade. Anyway, when I went to ring him up, he produced a DVD. It's Stargate, and my dad can't wait to watch it. He knew my dad was a fan of anything like that, so he's letting him borrow it for a while.

There was one other thing he handed over. It was in a little plastic baggy and, upon seeing it, I got giddy.

It was a raccoon skull.

Most of my friends know I collect bones and skulls of animals. Why? No, I'm not a necromancer. I simply collect these bits and pieces of the old dusted animal remains to study for my art. By studying the structure of the skull you can get a better idea on how to draw whatever creature it was once from.

Yes, I bleach these things at least three times, ending with a personal soap and water wash afterwards. These suckers are completely cleaned, being germ AND brain/organ/ligament free. They're like the things you see in museums now. They grace my upper shelf of the bookcase in my room. I have a stag, a chipmunk and now two raccoon skulls! Pretty impressive.

I have to thank Billy so much. He went to the creek around his house and hand plucked that piece of treasure. I have to begin the bleaching process tomorrow, which will take four to five days. After that, it's pretty easy from there.

The neat thing about this skull? There's no back plate, which means I can actually SEE what is INSIDE of the skull for once!!

heart Peace out, ya'll! heart

That pony sounds sooo cute! 4laugh Ivy on the leg, that's smart! EEEWWWW bones? gonk That's creepy! xp Well, not that creepy considering what I do. For example, I have small clippings of fur from every animal I have ever owned in my entire life blaugh I keep them in a little bright blue box and when I get enough, I'm going to make a multi-colored stuffed animal so I have all my little animal friends with me forever! (No I don't shave the poor thing, I just get scissors and snip a little off) mrgreen Well, I don't think it's that creepy, but everyone I old about it says it is eek

The pony is rather eloquent. I'll try to paste up a few images of it. Bones! Yup! I keep them because they're fantastic for art studying. Seeing a visual form really helps when constructing a drawing of said beastie. Hey, that's not weird at all! You're keeping a memento of them! Now, if you told me you kept the skeletons of them or something, well, then THAT would be weird. But keeping the fur? Not weird to me. That's actually a good idea (making a stuffed animal out of them)!! I like that idea. That way you have your angels with you forever. Feh. Old people. They look at me and CALL me crazy/weird. They just don't understand artists (like you, me and Art-san). They don't get us so they may label us "weird". We are who we are- can't change that!!

OMG!!! that pony is so pretty!!!!!! Pretty plant too! Is that where you live? You have a huge backyard! gonk Dumb city makes me feel all squished! You're an artist blaugh a REAL artist! If you see a dead animal or something, would you tear the bones out??! gonk bones creep me out.

Yay! A non-wierd-thinker! gonk Keeping the skeletons would be scary! lol, speaking of which, I told my little cousin that when I die I want to be stuffed and put on the couch blaugh I was joking of course, but she actually made a note of it! I'll make a cute little stuffed animal in the shape of a bunny or something 3nodding that would be so fuzzy and cute!

Lol, uuuhh actually I didn't say anything about old people. xp I misspelled told by typing to fast to put a "T" xd xd Well, we ALL are a little bit crazy! (chews on battery) just some crazier then others 3nodding

Awwwww! THANK YOU!! I really love this pony a lot. heart It took days to lay down the thin, even coats of paint so no brush strokes could be seen. The ivy vines where hand painted, and the long stem goes up it's haunch and bursts into a three petal (made of "gems" wink flower as it's main My Little Pony "symbol". The next pony I'm doing is from the same bait pony (Royal Bouquet) BUT it's been painted completely white. It'll be an angel!! I have to figure out if I want to sculpt the angel wings or simply construct them out of wire, a thin layer of sculpy and then paste white feathers on (one after another). Her name will be "Divine Serenity", and she'll be my first re-rooted pony (IF I can actually pull it off). Ill be using Virgin Snow, Starlight and Lucky Clover nylon brand hairs (mainly she'll have white, a white-ish glowing silver and a bright, but pallid, green).

Yup, that's where I live. I took the picture with one of our Hydrangeas we have. I know, I hate the city (I always say it's my Cherokee blood running in my veins that makes me LOATH cities and pollution caused by them). Oh, no, I wouldn't take the bones out. I'd most likely bury it, giving it a little prayer. No, I allow mother nature to supply me with bones. I'll never truly go searching them out particularly; I normally just stumble across them when I least expect it. A gift from the earth goddess! lol.

Skeleton keeping WOULD be rather scary. LOL! She made a note of it? xd That's still a fantastic idea, making a stuffed animal out of them.

Oops! Oh well. We are a bit crazy, it's true. Me? I'm insane. But I find madness- especially mind- is my creative output. I come out with some insanely strange things. I mean, heck, I sculpted the Doughboys (finished Psycho-D a short while ago)!! That SHOWS I'm insane!!

Thanks, Jagh!! Yeah, the green does look good with the pink. Mom knew what she was wanting after all! And yeah, I collect bones and skulls. twisted Actually, the one that I was just given has had it's four day soak in the three separate washes of "cleansing concoction" (half water, half Clorox bleach). Now, I may do one final rinse off (half a day) in that concoction, but I may just go ahead and do a soapy cleansing scrubbing over everything. After that, and about a day worth of drying in the sun, I'll bring 'em in and et viola! Ready for the shelves!
