Love is in the air
@o@
Congrats to TheTyro and Junior Goku! biggrin Stories like this make me really happy to be working on Gaia. Internet love has a dear spot in my heart because L0cke and I developed a great deal of our relationship over the neon waves of data. I think our primary mode of communication is still the internet even though we see each other daily. o_O;

And that's sweet about L0cke and you...XD, I didn't meet my boyfriend on Gaia but he introduced me to it...and now I play more than he does.

My friend, Renee the Rabid Squirrel, and I met at university in real life but it wasn't till she blurted out something about Gaia when we were at a Tim Hortons that we became really close friends. We had known each other for half a year before we found out we both were 2003 users on Gaia.

Gaia brought us together and she actually made me fall in love with Gaia a second time after being on hiatus for over a year. heart We communicate mostly online still. Even when we were living next door to each other at campus residence we talked online... even on web cam, just for laughs. When we go out together we talk about Gaia mostly like the latest announcement, quests we're doing, NPCs, new items, certain threads in the forums, etc. Now we're moving into a house together with some other people, but they don't go to Gaia... yet.

I don't know if I like this whole "spotlight" thing and my initial instinct is to hate glorified real life stories... but Gaia has done a lot of special things for people like my friend and I. Yet, I'm sure Gaia has done a lot of misfortune to people as well. I don't know if glorifying the good things is such a good idea. Isn't being great more about just "being" than "trying to be"? Some times it is like Gaia is trying too hard and that is what turns people off about these sort of things. I think the spotlight would be more appreciated in an informal setting such as a thread run by NPCs than as an announcement that everyone is forced to see and gives off the impression of representing gaia's image.

Call me one of those skeptics about internet love, but I just don't think it's entirely possible to start a relationship from just the internet. I think it's a great way to continue and develop it, especially when distance between the two persons is an issue, but it has to start in reality at some point.

Then again, I'm just stepping into the whole love-thing.

I'll just end with it varies from person to person. If it works for you, great. If it doesn't, then maybe go speed dating? xp

O: I have a similar story as they do. Cept its Bassken fishing, IL/AZ, and 2 years.

I don't like that I can't even lurk SF anymore. Its 80% full of people hating the Community Spotlight* and the funny Label system**.

*Keep doing this! D<
**Needs more stereotypes.

I met my girlfriend in Fishing three years ago, I live in Oregon and she in Maine.
I'm moving in with her in two days.

I thought it was such a coincidence that this announcement came today. xd

Internet love is always so cute!

I met my best friend through Gaia~ We met up on the Ask The Wizard thread in the Chatterbox and after talking for awhile on Gaia and AIM it turns out we lived sort of near each other so we started hanging out in person. Internet is one one of our primary modes of communication too...I'll be over at her house all day and when I have to leave I'll rush home so we can keep talking on IM! sweatdrop

I like it that this kind of announcement has been made, it seems a lot of the user base has forgotten any kind of community spirit, which for a forum is pretty sad - and that behind every avatar is a person. Gaia is part of real life and there is nothing wrong with finding love online, as a starting point to something more long term offline.

I applaud that this has been done, and hope it continues too. It was nice to mention it was from the Chatterbox as well, a lot of people seem to hate/avoid CB simply because of the bad reputation it has gained, while some of it is true it certainly isn't all bad.

I'm all for online relationships if people can make them work, the only thing I'd advise if you are going to encourage it (which the announcement does seem to suggest) is internet dating do's and don'ts to ensure people stay safe. Common sense isn't something a lot of people have nowadays, more so with younger people so maybe they need to have it spelt out to them?

I will agree with Dios de Television's comment about lurking in SF (as I do it too) the hate for the labelling system and the community spirit announcement is insane right now - almost every thread is on it! Roll on tonight's Evolving Report and Sunday's MCs is all I can say.

Also I agree with Dios that both the label maker and community announcements should continue. My only suggestions being, more labels and more avatars, with a possibility of ones we could make ourselves? And an internet dating do's and don'ts guide.

It's the same story for 2 of my friends, he lives in MS and she lived in MN, but she moved down to MS to live with him. Such a touching story, if only it would happen to me. I need some romance in my life! heart

I thought it was such a sweet story, and I love to see Gaia highlighting positive stories from our community. It really makes me feel like we ARE a community, and not just eleventy billion (est) people floating around Gaia's space.

Maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic, but I think if you feel that connection with somebody, you're doing yourself a real disservice by dismissing it just because it's the internet. Love doesn't know from technology. :3

I'm finding this community spotlight really interesting, Especially the timing. How do you find these people and how are they screened? I just took noticed that most of them have or had a personal relationship with moderators. But you sure did pick two sweet people, since i've seen the two of them around the GCD circa 2005-present. Tyro's mom, I wonder what went through her head when she was told by her daughter that she liked a guy online.

^_^ If it weren't for Gaia, I would have never met my wonderful boyfriend, Lord Kaeyl. ♥ A friend of mine that I've known on Gaia for years introduced us about a year ago, and we hit it off! We live over 400 miles apart, but still have managed to meet in person a couple of times! He's actually coming down this weekend for a week! heart I couldn't be happier! ^_^ It's fun making plans to see each other!

I've really formed a lot of great relationships with people here on Gaia. ^^ I'm really happy for it's existence.

And for those of you who don't believe that people can have real relationships, or fall in love online; you need to experience it to believe it. I didn't believe it was possible till I met Kyle. <3

I met Super Kame on Gaia around late '05 and we started our relationship in November '06. She came for a visit in March '07 and everything went perfect. She moved here from Georgia just over a year ago and we've been together since. smile
