So get this, in the process of moving from California to Utah, I had to sell a 1971 Volvo 144 I had been trying to restore. Heartbreak for me. So I post it on Craigslist because I have NO money for a paper add. One respondent replies he wishes to purchase the car, but he is a pastor and is currently out of the area on a mission so at first I'm thinking great!!!
Nope, he offers to send me a check, so I accepted. First one gets lost in the mail. So he sends a second one along with instructions to cash the check as soon as I get it and send the money to an address in Illinois. Here's where it gets really fun.
While checking on the first check, I learned it was being sent through Barnes and Nobles (the bookstore?!) of all places. Hm.........
So, I get the second check and take it to the bank and just hand it over. It's a $2200 check when he told me he was sending a $1700 check, I was suppose to take the money for the car out and send the rest on to him. He calls me later that day (after I get the check) and I tell him this:
"I'm so sorry, but the car's been stolen. I don't have the car to send to you!" (Imagine a woman sounding like they're crying) and he tells me to cash the check anyway and send the money on to someone else, keeping $50 for myself. "But I just can't! It's the church's money! If someone else needs it, it would mean a lot more to them if it came from the church! I'm sorry, I just... I just can't do this..."
And I hang up and laugh myself skinny.
Don't trust Craigslist because too many people are scammers looking for a quick buck is the whole moral, and if you find one claiming to be "Pastor Felix, really don't trust him. He's abusing the company he works for and the poor suckers who fall for his cheesy schemes. You want to flame him? PM me and I'll send you his e-mail.
