Starship Troopers 1 came out ages ago, but I recently re-watched it, after hearing about and getting Starship Troopers 2 and 3.
The Starship Troopers trilogy is based in the future, where the world is split into 2 groups. Citizens and non-citizens. People who are citizens get special privileges, like having kids, voting, etc. To become a citizen, you need to serve in the military (their may be other ways, but the military way is what the trilogy is about). Earth and all of humanity are at war with bugs... very large alien bugs, from distant planets.
All 3 movies contain blood, explosions, guts, nudity, swearing and violence. All 3 movies are also so-so on acting.
I do feel I should point something out. The 2nd movie in the trilogy, isn't that good. It doesn't have any of the original characters and it's... just bad really. For example, #1 and #3 both have realistic gun fire. The 2nd movie, the guns look the same, but are very quiet and seem to have the end of the gun just light up, like a flashlight.
I do recommend the first movie, to SciFi fans. Watch the 2nd one, if you really want to, but it's not a straight story line from 1 to 2 to 3. It's more like... This is how the war begins (#1), this is a random planet and a random outpost (#2), and then #3, which takes place on Earth and 2 different planets. The 3rd movie does have the main character from the first movie in it. It also has the actress (I don't know her name) that plays the female vulcan science officer from Star Trek Enterprise (the latest Star Trek series) in it, as an important soldier.
