I heard about The Scorpion King 2 the other day, coming to DVD. I don't think it went to the theaters and after seeing it, I can see why.
The first Scorpion King movie wasn't too bad, although I don't care for what's his face aka The Rock, from wrestling. Full of action and was a good movie.
The Scorpion King 2 is actually a prequel. Shows how the main character trained, grew up, etc. It's not so great though. Acting in it, wasn't great. Voice special effects were horrible, in my opinion. Even the CGI was bad, which is kind of sad, for movies these days. The movie uses scorpions in it a lot... too much, in my opinion. The first Scorpion King, I thought was called that, due to him being poisoned by scorpion king venom, which stays in his body for the rest of his life. This other movie... he's a soldier, called a Black Scorpion. And well... their are 2 other major things in the movie, based around scorpions. I guess it fits with the name, but kinda over does it. I'd have preferred it if they didn't have as many scorpions in this movie and stuck with the title, only due to what happened in the first one.
They also have too much magic powers and other mythology in it. Granted, it's nice to see myths intertwined, it wasn't done in a great way. The first movie was more action and not much mythology in it. For example... this 2nd movie mentions a bunch of mythological weapons, places and creatures. First one had none of that.
Anyway... would I recommend this movie? No. It's exactly what you'd expect to a straight to DVD movie. So-so acting and low budget.
