I'm sorry if the last chapter was short. Whenever chapters are from the viewpoint of just one character, they will be.
And those of you who wanted a romantic chapter, here it is. Chapter Sixteen
The same evening that the big white cat departed, two others left from the same place, but went in a different direction. And their intent was much less sinister.
Scaide followed Atrun along the border of the mountains. Most of the trees that grew here were evergreen: Pines and firs. The tabby had said he was going to show her something. She'd gone hunting with him before, and he'd always suggested that they stay away from wherever they were going now.
But all the same, they'd gotten...closer on those hunting expeditions. It was a closeness that Scaide had never felt with any cat, except maybe Shira. No, not even Shira. Scaide loved her sister dearly, but what she felt when she was with Atrun was different, somehow.
"We're here." Atrun's voice jolted her from her thoughts, leading her through a space between two rocks
Scaide gasped softly at the scene just beyond the two large rocks. The setting sun reflected on a small pool and waterfall, framed by deciduous trees in their full autumn glory.
"Wow," the young she-cat breathed.
"Pretty, isn't it?" Atrun purred. "And I think I'm the only one in my clowder that knows about it."
"Why don't the rest know?" Scaide asked.
"Because when I found it, I was only a training-kit." Atrun answered. "And I decided that I would only take special cats here." "Thank you," the brown warrior answered, leaning her head against his and purring.
And the sight that greeted any creature that happened to pass by, was two cats, sitting, leaning against each other, lost in bliss, as they faced the dying sun.
"Merra, have you seen Sydraz?" Oneric asked. "It's getting dark, and he said he'd be back by now."
"Any cat miss me?" the Sydraz the Second purred as he strode into camp.
"No," Azenek growled under his breath. Nekan gave both Seconds a cold stare, and returned to his shrew.
A few minutes later, Scaide and Atrun returned, a rabbit in Scaide's mouth, and a dove in Atrun's.
Oneric observed them. Strange. Sydraz left camp claiming he was hunting, and returned with nothing. While these two didn't bother to inform any cat where they were going, they obviously were hunting. Sydraz had begun acting odd the day he was chosen to be Second, but the oddness in his behavior had increased when these strangers had shown up.
Oneric had a feeling in his gut, and it wasn't a good one.
Do you think the Scaide/Atrun bit was Cheesy? If so, tell me.
