Unnamed --- Chapter one
The words flowed uninterrupted from his hand. Like flowers they took root on the page, transforming its emptiness into a world of wonder. His pen lightly scratching the paper, possessed by his consciousness. At a loss he pushed himself back from the desk. If only he could write like a man possessed without having to be possessed. He tore the page from his stationary pad. He hesitated for a moment then balled it up and threw it into the pile by the door.
He leaned back in his chair and gazed out the window. The night sky was clear and beautiful. Bright stars and a shining full moon lit the streets of the city below. Although he could not see them from the mansion window, he knew that below, in the city streets the creatures of the night roamed. Small impish creatures, harmless as they were, still had a fearful appearance. In addition to this, dangerous creatures roamed throughout the night. Rarely did they attack humans, however it was not unheard of.
The young man laughed to himself and ran his fingers through his hair removing it from his eyes. Smiling with his pearly white elongated canines glimmering.
His smile faded as he looked back down at the blank pages of the pad. If only he could tell her his secret. How his father was a vampire and his mother a witch. He understood that she needed to know, but he was afraid. Afraid that, like everyone else he had told his secret, she would hate him. Turn her back on him thinking he was a danger to her life when, in truth, being only half vampire he was harmless. Well, perhaps not harmless. His physical strength was a great as any full blood vampire as was his wit and his cunning, however he understood his human side and knew why humans feared those like him. However, he would never hurt a human. Not even for feeding. He had no desire for human blood, nor any blood at all.
He sighed deeply and shook his head. If only he was a braver man or, better yet, was full vampire. Not because he hated his human side, just the emotions attached to it. All of the emotions were there, but some were not as strong as they would be in humans and others, were far stronger. He felt very little joy, and unlike in humans, where the knowledge of being loved always seemed to lessen the pain or even make it fade completely, his pain was still there. Strong and thriving as if it had its own life, its own pulse.
He stood and began to examine the room. The ornate furniture made of chestnut, oak, and other exotic woods, the rows of leather bound books on all subjects from science fiction to case studies, the brand new computer on the desk he had just been sitting at, and the newly formed pile of paper near the door.
He sighed again. "I suppose there is nothing I can do but just write it." He sat back down and took up his pen once more. He brought it down upon the paper and began to write:

Dear Daphne,

Just as every tale has a beginning, every tale also has an end. Everyone must tell their tale, however, you already know of some of mine. Now the time has come for me to tell you what you do not yet know.
I must tell you something of my past, of course I am not going to tell my tale from the beginning but there are a few things you need to know.
I was born in Danvers, Massachusetts in 1804. You would use terms such as Vampire or Nosferatu to describe what I am, if I had revealed myself during my early years I would have been seen both as a god and as a demon.
I’m the b*****d son of one of the world’s most powerful witches and her foul, beloved, undead lord. My father, I was bound to kill by several oaths. It was testosterone related as well as power related.
I was a child unwanted by my parents because my breeding would make me dangerous and unpredictable. I know now that nothing could be further from the truth. The only things my parents did before they left me to die was give me my name, Apollo.
I soon found myself beyond all the expectations of my parents. not only had I survived. but I learned to read, write, and far more useful skills through out my life. When I reached eighteen my aging began to slow. It never stopped all together, because of being only half vampire.
In later years I traveled the world staying in Germany, Switzerland, England, France, Russia and China amongst other places. In 1980 I settled in England and bought myself a nightclub, the “Lilly”, where I met you a few years latter.
You, my Daphne. My lovely Daphne. You who are my life, my livelihood, the only reason I have to continue living. It was hard to write this, to tell you everything of me,but you deserved to know. What is love without honesty and trust? I hope that now that you know my freighting secret you can continue to see me as the man you love. And, Daphne, my love, know this, if you choose no longer to love me, my love will always remain true and I shall continue to watch over you and keep you safe as I do now. Please, help me write an end to my tale.

~ Apollo

He put down his pen with a sigh of relief. He tore the page from the pad slowly, careful not to rip the page. He held it in front of him read it over again. "Well, this still isn't as good as I hoped but it will have to do." He folded in into thirds and place it inside of an ivory colored envelope on which he wrote her name in his elegant hand.
He stood and walked toward the door to his study. He pushed it open and stood in the dark hallway. The only light spilling from the room behind him onto the hardwood floors and the elegantly decorated walls. He looked down the hallway, to the double doors at the end. The doors that led to the room that he and Daphne shared.
He began to approach the doors but hesitated with his hand on one off the hand carved handles. He glanced down at the envolope in his hand. Any human would not be able to see it in the darkness, however he with his sensitive, vampire eyes, could see every curl in her name. He shook his head and pulled his hand away from the door.
He had lost the courage he worked so hard to gather. He could not bring himself to look upon her face for fear that he would have second thoughts. She had been talking about having children. After all they had been married for several years and she had always wanted them. If they were ever to have a family she would need to everything about him. He bent over and slid the envolope under the door.
He decided it was time to go out the the night club. He did so every night. it wasn't just a club for humans to come to, it was also a meeting place for half blood creatures. If ever the full bloods got out of hand they would meet there and discuss how to fix the problem. And oh what a problem it was.
He would return to the mansion at the first sign of daybreak to hide from the sun as all vampires must. And when he returned he would find Daphne still in her peaceful slumber, he would silently slip into bed beside her and drift off into sleep. It was hard having a relationship with someone you never saw, but the two of them were used to it. Daphne knew Apollo went to the night club every night and she would awake in the morning to see him sleeping beside her, and Apollo knew that Daphne spent the day with her friends and doing what she pleases. Sometimes the two of them would spend their nights at the night club and slip into bed in the early morning just before the sun peaked over the horizon. On these nights however Apollo avoided the other half bloods.
Apollo, now standing at the top of the main staircase, noticed for the first time how his home did not reflect his breeding at all. True the home was decorated by Daphne, however, it was entirely the opposite of what he would have chosen. It had a loving, almost God-like glow to it. The staircase, spiraled down from the floor above with mahogany hand rails and flowered designs carved into the support beams. A great crystal chandelier hung above the staircase casting a bright light. Onto the stairs themselves and the great hall below.
Apollo walked down this staircase, his hand on the handrail, and his eyes examining the flower patterns. When he reached the bottom he looked upwards to the chandelier. He thought about how beautiful it must be in the day time. Sunlight refracting off the glass beads making rainbows of the walls. He wished he could see it. He smiled. Maybe that was the reason Daphne loved it so much. he thought. Yes that must be it. As he brought his gaze downward his smile faded again. He found he smiled less and less often. With any hope that will change after Daphne reads the letter. He swung one of the mansion's great doors open and stepped outside only to return in a few hours when the sun begins to rise and when when he will learn of his fate.
