Sparrow ch. 1
SPARROW

A loud bang issued from the room Mirai was in, closely followed by a woman shrieking hysterically.

"How dare you drop my best china!" the woman was saying.

Mirai muttered a quick apology, gathering up the broken cookies, spilled tea, and cracked porcelain.

"Sorry? You drop my most precious china and all you can say is sorry? You were lucky I took you under my wing that one morning three years ago, you ungrateful servant girl! You're just an orphaned peasant living under my roof and if you anger me again I shall throw you out on the streets!"

Mirai rushed out of the room in fear. Suddenly she ran into something soft that said, "Oof!" and began giving her a worse scolding than the woman she worked for, Sirali.

It was Reya, the eldest and most spoiled daughter of the wealthiest man in the world. She was unaffectionately known as "Royal Reya" - and for good reason.

When Reya finished her lamenting, she took a closer look at Mirai. "You're a servant girl, aren't you?" she growled.

Mirai nodded fearfully, and Reya curled her hand around Mirai's arm in an iron grip, leading her into an empty alleyway. Reya released Mirai but forced the servant's face upward.

"Have you got the aliens in your head?"

Four years ago, when Mirai was nine, aliens had invaded the Earth and taken over people's minds. As far as she knew, only she and Reya were free from the demanding aliens, called Overtakers. Mirai shook her head.

Reya fixed Mirai's hazel-green eyes with her heavily mascarad robin's-egg blue ones in an icy glare but finally let go. "I believe you," she said. "You haven't got that dumb look the others have."

Reya pulled out a piece of paper from a concealed pocket in her long, pleated skirt. "Can you read?"

Mirai nodded.

Reya shoved the page into her hands. "Good, 'cause I can't. Now read this aloud."

Mirai took a deep breath and began. It seemed to be a person's journal entry.

It is 3051, and I have been captured by foreign aliens. I do not know what they wish from an 11-year-old, but it cannot be good. Especially not in these times.

I am writing this in the hope that somebody will find it and save me. My name is Sparrow Cartheigh and no aliens have invaded my head yet, though I am not sure that it will stay this way. I am an only child, raised by my mother.

Wait! I just heard two aliens speaking to each other about me. They say that I am to be kept here for three years to this day and then - oh this is the worst part - then I will be sacrificed to their gods. These aliens are a bloodthirsty species, and now they are concocting the most painful yet efficient way to kill me. I do not want to die, people of Earth. Please, please save me.

-Sparrow Cartheigh, October 30, 3051

Mirai finished reading and met Reya's eyes. The older girl simply snorted and said, "So?"

"So?" Mirai cried shrilly yet happily. "So? So Sparrow is another free person! We've got to save her!"

"It's probably too late."

Mirai thought quickly. "No, it isn't! It's October 26, 3054! But we've only got four days." She paused and looked at Reya. "Come on! We've got no time to lose!"

this is the beginning of a story I have titled "Sparrow." please comment on it!
