Nuclear
On the 27th of June, year 2050 the Nuclear Holocaust took place. Many people were not evacuated in time. It is certain that billions of human beings, of all nationalities have died.
My group, like many others, was not evacuated by the U.S. government. This is because we were thought to be spies from Russia, our home. We were forced to escape the explosions on our own. I am the youngest of my group, only seventeen. My name is Christopher, my last name I can not reveal in my writings in the event that they fall into American hands. The other three in my group are my brothers. Our parents were slain by angry Americans who blamed us for their suffering.
I am writing this is in case we perish in our travels and cannot pass on our story. This document is intended to inform whatever future generations there may be of what it was like to like through the Nuclear Holocaust.
The explosion, was the most terrifying thing I will ever remember seeing. We were so near it, that it was almost like being a part of it. The light, brighter than any I can remember, burned its way into my retinas. The color, or lack of, I cannot decide which, pushed me to a threshold from which there was no return. I tightly clenched my eyelids together. It made no difference, it was just too bright. Then, suddenly, it began to dim. When I opened my eyes, I saw nothing. Only a deep pit of absolute darkness.
The heat easily made its way through my clothing, causing my skin to break out in sweat. The heat still would not stop. Causing the sweat on my body to evaporate as quickly as it formed. The heat rose higher still, burning me, so fiercely that it was difficult to remain conscious. But I knew I had to. For if I didn't there was no chance of me surviving. It was already a miracle that I had not gone blind from the light.
The smells hit me as quickly and as strongly as the heat. You could smell burning trees, animal hair and burnt meat. The plants were scorched dry then burnt to the soil, smelling like a brush fire. What was once a pine forest went with a cloud of pine smell. I was thankful to not be able to smell the burning flesh and bubbling fat of my companions and I, thankful to know, that unlike so much around us, we were alive. However, we were not without injury. Most of us now have horrible scares from the intense heat, but as I said before, we were just glad to be alive.
You may be wondering how I am writing this when so many of our belongings had been burned along with the forest around us, well that is simple. Last night, due to fear of a second blast, we fled the area shortly after the explosion. We traveled a great distance in one night alone and eventually we were given shelter by a group of people similar to us. Consisting of several rather large families with both sets of grandparents, children, and the parents of those children, they were well prepared. My group, consisting of only four and being all young men found this astounding. We never could have been so prepared for the situation as they were. They had everything they needed, clothing, soaps, canned foods, pots, pans, they even had several journals for recording their travels. They offered us a place in their group, saying they could use a few more young men to assist the older members of the group. In exchange for this they would provide us with food, clothes, and shelter. I myself, requested one of the journals in which to write this.
It is early morning now, the sun has only just begun to rise. I took that as my cue to start writing. I wanted to write this down not only so my story could be known but so that at least one document existed that the government had not censored. After all it was likley that the government would censor most records of the aftermath.
I wish that I could describe to you the areas effected by the explosions, but I dare not expose myself to more radiation. After all, my face has been burned beyond repair. True that now it is wrapped in bandages, however I am certain of the scars that my comrades and I will have when the burns heal.
However, I will tell you about the girl who bandaged my face. She had the most beautiful olive skin I have ever laid my eyes upon.
