Ok, so I haven't seen a thread solely dedicated to this topic, so I thought I'd make my own.
Let me state a two things first.
1. This is NOT a "Gaia makes too many chance items!" thread.
2. I LIKE this hat, and really I hope whoever pixelled it can be conveyed my thanks and artistic appreciation for it. 3nodding Plus please do the rest of the set in mint, please. heart
So I was browsing through the GCD, putting off writing an essay I really needed to do when I saw an announcement pop-up. I opened it to see announcement about the Emerald Seed. I thought to myself, "oh, another lamp-type item?" and went about doing my essay as it was due soon. I came back around an hour later sure that there'd be at least a partial list of the items available.
At this point, let me explain. I have relatively come to peace with Gaia. Particularly with Gaia and the cash shop. I am not Gaia's only user. I may find gem2niki's choice of color pallete for his EIs unappealling (though improved since Inari's Beads), but as the price attests, many other users love his item (though I think mainly for cosplay/eyes as I almost never see any other poses...). Point being, I don't like the item, but others do. This played a great factor into the success of the Gimpi and Jinxi (also items I didn't really care for). Gaia makes money off his/her EIs, so s/he will keep making them. That's fine, it's not hurting or bothering me. I've gotten off the whole "I need to own every item on Gaia, particularly if it's new and shiny" thing awhile ago.
So I get through the list, roll my eye at the prices and wishlist a few to see if they go down. I get to the bottom and what do I see? A hat that looks very much like the S-lol mini-tricorns released in February. But it's green, Mint-colored.
I was extremely excited about the S-lol and Salty update. Really, I was, for the first time in months I was very happy and excited about a gold store update and felt I HAD to buy those items. I went on a quest and sold a bunch of stuff to purchase nearly all of the S-lol items (only the rocking horse shoes and the flat headbands were not on my list). This set me back a couple hundred thousand gold. Prolly 350k? I dunno, you can do the math, it was a lot, as it was a pricey set. But I didn't complain. I went to SF and THANKED the artist who drew it (though I didn't know who did) and even defended the price as being very lolita-authentic (silly burando) in multiple threads. I also saw mentioned in several threads people wishing it had come in a few more colors, mainly green/mint and yellow.
So I see the mint-colored hat. I'm a bit confused, why is a gold store hat recolor (meant with all due respect to the artist) in with the Emerald Seed rewards? So I go and check out Ruby's shop, thinking maybe it got slipped in there like the Ribbon Luv sleeves. Nope, no mint hat.
Here's where my problem begins. Looking at the tricorns, they came in 6 colors, including a dark green. But the frilly hats only came in 5 colors. You can argue this is because the main S-lol set only came in 5 colors, but the Skipper set only came in 4 colors, so I don't think coordination with the set was really the determinate of how many colors these hats came in.
I'm guessing that the Mint hat didn't get pushed to the server on time or wasn't quite done with when the update was released. Okay, no big deal, things come late. But why then put it in the Emerald Seed push? I kind of hope this is a mistake actually. That really Juno or whoever meant to put it in the store (it has a store price identical to the other Frilled hats), but in the hubub of getting another chance item out (in a relatively short amount of time, but I'll leave that for other threads to explore) it got placed in the wrong line of code. Wrong place, wrong time, you know?
So could a dev please tell me: Is this an accident?
