I've been stuck reading this long series about a wizard named Harry... who lives and works in Chicago as a private investigator. I love these characters, and the writing style reminds me so much of Joss Whedon (Buffy, Angel and Firefly for those who don't know his name in relation to his work). They're smart, witty, clever, occasionally punny, dramatic, serious, lovable, crazy, and creative.
But being on book Eleven-- reading straight through with no breaks-- I'm kind of tired of these guys. The stories are captivating, wonderful twists and a teeny predictability (I hate never knowing what's going on before the hero does).
I've just been reading alot of series lately... Pink Carnation, Chibi Vampire, Harry Potter, Death Note, Twilight, Keys to the Kingdom, Aisling Grey a Guardian, Wild Ones. I'm kind of dying for a solo book. Something I can finish and say "Ah, that was good, I'm glad it's done."
I guess I'll be diving back into classic literature again... the stuff that I never really read in school, even though I was supposed to. I am proud of myself for finally finishing Jane Eyre... some 10 years later. I think the thing that makes classic lit easier to get through is that someone somewhere has probably made a movie of it. Either public television or something borrowed from the BBC.
I feel like I'm going to get that "you have reached the end of the internet" notice about reading. "You've read everything that you would ever find interesting, go away."
Too much free time sometimes feels like not enough. wahmbulance
