No, not focus and desire for success, but rather the way we look at the world.
For instance, and my main case in point:
The desire to see the world burn, and the desire to change the world for the better are the same desire. The only difference between the two is focus. Both come from a strong dissatisfaction from the world. Both come from witnessing the worst of the world. Both are likely the result of much loss and misunderstanding. One, however, seeks to destroy what ignorance and evil it sees, the other wishes to build the world up to a glorious ideal.
One of course would be much simpler a solution than the other, but both take the same amount of focus. The only difference is where that focus is directed. Perhaps, were everyone who held one desire or the other were to focus on the latter, then maybe we would in fact be able to bring about such a change, but not everyone is capable of switching that focus.
However, losing one's focus can switch it from one to the other quite easily, especially if you've had the desire for both at separate times, and have made that switch.
So, if you ever hear me say "I'm losing my focus . . . " you'll know what it means . . .
