2nd Day in Japan - July 9, 2009
I got up, made my bed, and prepared to take a shower. I chose to wear my green capri's with a green wife beater and my Chinese looking green vest over that. After my shower I ate breakfast with Yuki which was egg (that didn't taste done but I was hungry) and 2 hot dogs/sausages. After breakfast we headed to school, in which her mom drove us again. I went to Yuki's homeroom again and did her usual morning routine then headed up to the 7th floor. After a little bit, a Japanese man taught us about Townshend Harris, a man who first associated himself with the Japanese back in the 1800's. After the history lesson, we headed to the cafeteria to meet some of the students.
The first activity was with room 101 and 102 students. We had to write down their name, age, hometown, and hobby... and they had to write down mine (in English) <--so I wrote most of theirs in Japanese. Then, we got paired off with them judging on the numbers on our paper. I got 2 girls and we played 'Guess the Gesture Game' in which one person goes up and gets a sentence to act out, like: "I am hungry. Do you have food?" So without talking we used gestures which was really hard since the Americans and Japanese use different gestures. After that activity the room 202 students came in with a sheet of paper that had our names. I again, got 2 girls who didn't know much English. They had me fill out a piece of paper that had me ask Ms. Takase different questions in Japanese. After that I got to talk one-on-one with them and they taught me some Kanji.
After these activities we went back to the International Room on the 7th floor and learned some origami with the origami brothers (4 cute Japanese boys). We made a pistol, balloon, and crane. After they left we ate lunch which I got another awesome bento. This time we ate in the cafeteria. My bento consisted of egg, mini sausages, 2 meat things, something that tasted a lot like macaroni, another mean thing, and 2 onigiri which were kind of plain tasting. I also went to the store and bought a 90 yen strawberry milk thing wit ha 120 or 30 yen Pocari Sweat drink (tastes like Gatorade).
After lunch we did some Japanese geography and I learned about the popular areas in Japan. Then we went to the music room where we sang "Ue o Muite Aruko" which no one but the Washougal kids (my school) knew since we sing it every year for our Japanese festival. =) And then a school assembly happened where they introduced the sports teams. After that, school was pretty much out and Yuki actually came to the room earlier than yesterday and her mom drove us home. I've been writing in here (my journal I've kept for this trip) since I've gotten home and I'm trying to stay awake. I'll probably start reading or something till dinner. Ja ne (see ya)!
Okay, so I ended up reading about a page and a half when Yuki's mom came in and asked me to go shopping! <3 So Yuki stayed behind because of studies and I, her mom, and Eri went shopping. It was fun! We first went to the book store and I couldn't believe how big the manga section was! I endwed up buying a yaoi magazine since I could at least look at the pictures... plus there are some good titles in it that I can download later. +.+ And then I went to a store with very cute clothes and I almost bought a kimono for 4095 yen (about 40$). Instead I spotted a very cute drawing book that I had to get for Paula along with some cute stickers. And as I was browsing near the cashier I found bellybutton rings and bought myself a really cute and cheap strawberry one (8$). After this we went to the food section and got food that I might enjoy.
Then we went home and I talked with Yuki about manga (which she had a secret stash of her own) until dinner was done. We had curry and rice, pizza, and chicken. It was all very delicious. =) Now I'm about to go to bed, it's late so goodnight!
