I have decided that I will make up some stories to explain all of the cufflinks I inherited from Daddy after he died. Since I have no idea where he actually got the cufflinks, or why he had so many of them, I figure I may as well give myself something to work with!
Cufflinks I: The Quebec Milk Cufflinks
Daddy was a smart man, but like most, he had needs. Needs for milk. So, every now and then he'd buy milk. I mean, don't you? One day, he decided, you know what, who needs going to the corner store for milk? I'm going to join the Milk Elite Club. Now, at the time, he lived in Montreal, which is part of Quebec. Quebec is serious about it's milk. You don't mess with the Quebec Milk Patrol. So, he went to their local offices.
"May I join the Milk Elite Club?" Asked Daddy. "The MEC doesn't allow just any commoner in, MONSIEUR!" Replied the snide Milk Man. "I am not just any commoner, you see, I am a MacDonald. I come from a long line of milk-drinkers! Milk is in my blood!" "Milk-drinkers? Feh! You insult me with your Common talk! We 'ave no such thing ici!" Scoffed the Milk Man.
Daddy, shamed, turned and left. He'd be back, though, and with him he would bring some very sexy Montreal ladies fresh from the swankiest night club that they had back in the 'whatevers. The Milk Man, despite his airs of superiority, could not resist the bouncing...jugs, that the women carried with them. Jugs of milk in Quebec! How risque! (For bags of milk are more common!).
"Fine, fine!" Exclaimed the Milk Man, "If your...friends, will join us for the night, you may become a preliminary member of the MEC!"
And so Daddy became a preliminary member. He didn't stay with them all that long, in fact, he was booted out right after the first meeting (shouldn't have talked about the Canadian Cheese Club), but he did manage to swipe some lovely Quebec Milk cufflinks.
And that is the story of why I now have some dusty old Quebec Dairy cufflinks sitting in a cookie tin on my shelf.
FIN!
