Government Homework. >:[
Before i plead my Case, i would like to present you with a bit of background information on the census bureau. The first census was taken in 1790 after independence, It was taken by u.s. marshals on horse back and counted 3.9 million people. The census continued because, as the country grew, the government needed statistics to plan for the future. So in 1902 the census bureau became a permanent institution of the untied states government. The census bureau, in addition to taking a census of the population every ten years also conducts a census of economic activity and state and local governments every five years. The census bureau is headed by director Charles Louis Kincannon who was appointed by the president with the approval of the united states senate. Our department is invaluable to these united states of America, The data we collect is used in many aspects of the government, including Assigning congressional seats equally by population among the fifty states. In addition to appointment the results are used to: distribute almost $200 billion annually in Federal and state, local, and tribal funds, draw state legislative districts, evaluate the success or failure of programs, or identify populations in need of service, and many other purposes. Citizens can also use the census data. Businesses can use the data to decide where to place a new outlet, or select what products will be sold at what locations. Students may use the census to track trends in their local area for a class project, why, they could even write a two page report on the census bureau. Writers and historians can use the census t get a feel for the united states at a certain point in time. The bureau creates thousand of jobs and if disbanded, would leave thousands unemployed, you wouldn't want that, now would you? In conclusion, the census bureau is a vital asset to this country, and if cut from the budget, national disorder and chaos would no doubt ensue.
