There’s a homeless man on the corner of the street
Begging for change, to get something to eat
And the cars scream by.
Too fast to see the tear in his eye
But, what of who this man used to be,
A doctor, a lawyer, a man on TV
And how did he fall?
It could happen to us all.
And we judge this man by what we see
With no idea of his misfortunes or their degree
But why should we care,
Life’s unfair…
A girl walks alone with her long sleeves pulled down
She stares at her feet, her face wears a frown.
And life screams by.
Too fast to notice the tear in her eye
But, what of who this girl could be
A doctor, a lawyer, in fact anything potentially
So why’d she fall?
Why didn’t it happen to us all?
And we judge this girl by what we see
With no idea of her misfortunes or of their degree
But why should we care,
Life’s unfair…
…When time passes on what do we see…
The man standing on the corner has ceased to be
He was shot, fatally,
He saved a life he’d never known
And the man’s name is still unknown.
This man paid the ultimate price
To help a man who never looked at him twice
This John Doe
Died a hero.
The girl died suddenly
Not of a “medical condition” but tragically
She died of suicide
Something her sleeves can’t hide
All she needed was a second glance
And maybe then she’d have had a chance
But all people did was stop and stare
And still not one of them care.
And as the two were laid to rest
The empty grave side did suggest…
We shouldn’t care,
Life’s unfair.
