“What… where am I?”
Looking around, all I saw were trees, fallen leaves, and fog for miles. It wasn’t a strange sight if you were in the woods (where he was, he guessed), and though Randy knew it was autumn, the area looked… off. Like something wasn’t right. Then again, it could be because te leaves were now two times bigger than he was used to. He glanced behind himself and slowly got up from his down position.
He looked at himself, and he almost pissed himself right there.
He. Had. Paws. And fur. And four legs. And a fluffy tail that was begging him to bite it!
“What?! When?! Why am I a cat?!”
“What do you mean, ‘why am I a cat’?”
Turning with a silent squeak, Randy saw a pair of beautiful amber eyes. The cat - in which he could tell was a girl around his age for some reason - tilted her head and asked once more, “What do you mean, ‘why am I a cat’? You should be a cat.”
“Who are you?”
“Me? I should be asking you that! You’re the crazy one; asking yourself why you’re a cat, sheesh!” She sat down and looked at Randy with sharp eyes. Randy couldn’t help but notice her long reddish-black fur: it looked nice. He looked back her face when she said, “My name is Maleii Gins. Call me Lee.”
“Um, okay, Lee, I’m Randy Griffin. Look, I’m a little lost-”
Suddenly, her finely shaped muzzle was in his. Her eyes slowly widened and she quickly stood. With one swift sweep of the surroundings, Lee got behind him and began pushing him towards a tree. He struggled, but he stopped when she snapped, “Don’t fight me! If you want to live, you’ll do what I tell you!”
You‘re not exactly telling me anything… Randy thought smartly before he realized he was nose to nose with a tree trunk. He looked to his right as Lee rushed, “Climb.”
And with that, she whipped out her claws and scaled the tree. She looked at him when she saw he wasn’t climbing. “Stress your muscles on your paw. They’ll come out. Now hurry! We have no idea when they‘ll come!”
A little suspicious, but too scared of his predicament to let go of this pretty feline just yet, he did as told. Small, but sharp claws flew out of his paw and he spent no time admiring. He found himself flying up the tree after Lee. This was weird, because techically, he was afraid of heights and of climbing; his fears were coming so naturally that he didn’t seem to mind.
“Hurry! Onto this branch; now jump!” Lee continued to order as she directed him towards a branch across from the one they were standing on. He continued to do as told and she followed.
“Where are we going?” He asked, still jumping branches like she was.
She didn’t answer his question, but she stated, “You’re human, aren’t you?”
His eyes narrowed. “How did you-”
“Your eyes,” Lee said, “You have dark brown eyes with round pupils. I couldn’t see it at first, but up close, it’s so obvious. And your name screams human, by the way.”

In this world, there are many things: water, fire, flowers, dogs, other humans. There are many things that these things make and have made but where do they come from? Sure, there is evolution but somethings just don’t happen with the eventual change.
That is where rips come in.
Rips are tears in our worlds that lead to other places, somewhat like portals. Now there are millions of stories telling of these portals and how “magical” they are. They are not magic. They are more like factories for our world and for everything in it.
There is a rip for humans: in this rip, humans are gaining different qualities, such as yellow eyes and they are taller. This rip is strange because it moves from place to place; placing children and adults wherever it feels like. This rip has also been called heaven and hell - yes, they are the same place, it just depends on who you’re talking to. There are rips for water, where water is made and eventually returns to in the sky and deep under water. There is also a rip for animals, such as cats.
Now some rips move - such as the human rip - and some rips have several copies of itself across the world, like tree rips. The cat rip is one of these rips, in which it doesn’t move, but has several other copies.
We’ll take one of the cat rips for example. Ever wonder why there are so many stray cats? It’s probably because you have a cat rip nearby and several cats from inside have found a way out. Unknown to the human world, the animal kingdom knows well of these rips and they tend to stay away by instinct.
But what is it like inside one of these rips? It is earth, just not earth. In rips, only the subject of its exisitence lives. So only cats live in the cat rips. Only water splashes about in the water rips. Only humans in the human rip.
But what happens when one exisitence stumbles into another’s rip? Like if a human falls into a cat rip? Well, simple: the rip changes you into whatever is meant to be there. Or that’s what Maleii, Lee, Gins tells to the recently transformed Randy. She also tells him that not only does he have to wait for the next changing of the seasons - the Spring Equinox - he also has to find the rip that he came in from!
Randy is human. A typical boy with no speical characteristics, with a crush that’s way out of his league, and some type of allergy and abnormal hatred for cats.
But when he is forced to spend four months with a cat, along with that supposed crush, he realizes that looks only run so deep and that no matter the boundary, the league, or even the species, love conquers all.
