Quotes of AWESOME
I love quotations because it is a joy to find thoughts one might have, beautifully expressed with much authority by someone recognized wiser than oneself. - Marlene Dietrich
Anaïs Nin
((Lost the original post (it was a PEBKAC issue D< ), and had to REWRITE IT and then GET ALL THE QUOTES AGAIN >: P))

So, I have a thing for quotes. I'm not too good at coming up with clever, witty, erudite things, and I love finding places where people say what I want to say better than I ever could. I have a block of my favourite quotes on my profile, but there are so many more that I want to share ... and I really don't want my profile to become just a mass of quotes. So I decided that I'd share the quotes I enjoy through my journal, which I thought might be less obnoxious. (Or not. You can always hope. XD)

No plans for an update schedule; it'll basically be whenever I feel like it. So there might be fifty-seven in one day and then none for six months. Whatever. I don't really expect people to read this, so I'm not gonna worry about it. XD

Oh, also — 'XD' is pretty much my favourite emoticon or whatever it's called, and I use it ALL THE TIME. 8D It will quite possibly get really annoying. I don't care. XD

Okay, so this first quotes sampler is going to focus on Anaïs Nin, who is apparently a romance writer or something. Yeah, I really have no idea. XD Anyway, I downloaded a program to organize my quotes a while back (yes, I know I have a problem. Shut up.), and there was a section on quotes from here that came with the program. So today I finally got around to checking it out, and I realized that I really liked a bunch of them .... but, like I said above, I didn't want to post them all on my profile. So here they are instead. n_n

~Quotes~

"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom."

"Dreams are necessary to life."

"Each contact with a human being is so rare, so precious, one should preserve it."

"How wrong it is for a woman to expect the man to build the world she wants, rather than to create it herself."

"I am an excitable person who only understands life lyrically, musically, in whom feelings are much stronger as reason. I am so thirsty for the marvelous that only the marvelous has power over me. Anything I can not transform into something marvelous, I let go. Reality doesn't impress me. I only believe in intoxication, in ecstasy, and when ordinary life shackles me, I escape, one way or another. No more walls."

"I disregard the proportions, the measures, the tempo of the ordinary world. I refuse to live in the ordinary world as ordinary women. To enter ordinary relationships. I want ecstasy. I am a neurotic — in the sense that I live in my world. I will not adjust myself to the world. I am adjusted to myself."

"I do not want to be the leader. I refuse to be the leader. I want to live darkly and richly in my femaleness. I want a man lying over me, always over me. His will, his pleasure, his desire, his life, his work, his sexuality the touchstone, the command, my pivot. I don’t mind working, holding my ground intellectually, artistically; but as a woman, oh, God, as a woman I want to be dominated. I don’t mind being told to stand on my own feet, not to cling, be all that I am capable of doing, but I am going to be pursued, f****d, possessed by the will of a male at his time, his bidding."

"If what Proust says is true, that happiness is the absence of fever, then I will never know happiness. For I am possessed by a fever for knowledge, experience, and creation."

"If you do not breathe through writing, if you do not cry out in writing, or sing in writing, then don't write, because our culture has no use for it."

"Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage."

"Living never wore one out so much as the effort not to live."

"Ordinary life does not interest me. I seek only the high moments. I am in accord with the surrealists, searching for the marvelous."

"People living deeply have no fear of death."

"Shame is the lie someone told you about yourself."

"The possession of knowledge does not kill the sense of wonder and mystery. There is always more mystery."

"Throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back, a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country."

"We are like sculptors, constantly carving out of others the image we long for, need, love or desire, often against reality, against their benefit, and always, in the end, a disappointment, because it does not fit them."

"We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are."

If you liked one of these, feel free to lemme know/share it with your friends/put it on your profile/whatever the heck you feel like. It makes me happeh. : D
