"He's been sulking." I responded to Kenneth over the phone. "I've no idea why and he won't tell me."
"Has anything recent happened aside from the killer horse demon?"
I glanced at Izzy who was curled up on the couch, back to me. "I told him to stop licking my face, and then he got angry at that, but he quickly got over it."
"But he's a kid, and you won't let him kiss you, and now he can't lick you. You need to remember he's still a pet. Pet's require lots of love and attention."
"he's not a pet, he's human."
"A demon, you're the human." My friend corrected. "I don't know, though. It really could be anything but I'm going to guess the problem begins with you."
"Thanks for the help." And hung up, looking at the scraggly kid. The gray eyes glanced back at me before turning forward again. "Izzy, you can't keep on staying mad at me. What did I do?"
He shifted again, back still toward me as I tried to look at his face.
"Izzy." And I sat on the couch beside him, grabbing his shoulders and pulling him in for a hug. "Tell me what's wrong? You know I can't be happy if you're not happy. You're my little ray of sunshine." I tried to look at his face but his head turned, making me sigh. "I don't know what you want me to do." And we sat there silently, me holding the warm body close, more or less on my lap.
"You love me right?' came the soft voice.
I could only look in surprise, hugging him tighter. "Of course I do. I love you with all of my heart, Izzy. I love you so much."
"I don't lie you know."
"I know."
"And I love you."
"I know."
"No I mean like, I LOVE you. Not like love love but like LOVE."
I paused, fearing the direction this was going. "Izzy,"
"And I'm really older than eleven, you know that. I've been alive for forever."
"Izzy."
"And I just really want you to love me more than Kenneth or Melissa becuase I love you so much more than they do."
"Izzy, are you crying?"
"Maybe."
I cooed softly, hugging him until he turned to hug me back, clinging to me. "Maybe when you're older."
"I am older."
"Physically and mentally."
