Twelve Guardians
In an era long since past, twelve guardians rose up to wage war against an encroaching force of destruction. The brought their battle deep into the reaches of the sky itself, fighting their battle to this very day. In the modern era, they appear as constellations in the night sky, much like the twelve signs of the zodiac. Included here is a brief history and description of the guardians.

The Knight Bold and Strong
The Knight was born to a simple family in a small farming community outside of a major city. A great war swept across the land, swallowing all within it's path with teeth of steel. When the war finally came to The Knight's village, he took up his tools and set forth to the task of protecting those he cared most deeply for. In the end not one villager was lost that day, but the fields lay bloodied with the bodies of the invading force. His efforts were rewarded with a seat next to the great king of the realm, and appointed to the rank of Knight Commander. It is said he was undefeated in battle: his sword a gleaming beacon of hope as he lead his kinsman to victory.

The Mage Wise and Powerful
In the high towers of a long forgotten castle, The Mage spent his years pondering the very fabric of the universe itself. He studied nearly every form of magic and experimented in trying to attain it's source. Decade after decade he poured over his tomes and scrolls, filling page after page with his notes. In time, he filled the entire castle wall to wall with his knowledge, turning it into a great library of powerful arcane knowledge. He grew fearful that his knowledge would fall into the wrong hands, and so used his great power to send his castle to another world where no one would every find it.

The Thief Silent and Crafty
There was once a great thief who could steal anything she put her mind to. She managed to slip in through cracks no bigger than a thumb and scale walls several hundreds of feet tall with the greatest of ease. She was a social chameleon: able to adopt the guise of anyone she wanted and walked freely through the streets undetected. One day The Thief had heard rumors of a powerful shroud worn by Death himself and decided that it must be hers. It took her many a year to find him, but when she did she crept in quiet as a shadow and snatched the shroud right off of his back. To this day Death still searches for his lost shroud and for the crook who took it from him.

The Smith Diligent and Precise
In the age of The Knight, The Smith worked the bellows of a prominent forge in a neighboring kingdom. It is rumored that he would reach his hands into flames and pull out the white hot metal with his bare hands unscathed. His hammer was an extension of his arm and the tools that he created were among the best in the world. He could see into the heart of the flame and metal and would listen to it's whispers, listening to what it was destined to become. He set forth the task of forging the perfect weapon: a weapon that would never be surpassed by any other but none of his attempts managed to hold up to his dream. He perservered and even now a falling star is viewed as him throwing out yet another weapon that he has deemed unfit.

The Mother Gentle and Protective
The Mother was once a great queen who ruled over a vast kingdom. It is rumored that she took no king to rule with her, but instead watched over all that happened within her rule. As she grew older, she realized that she had no heir to her throne: and so she met with a great many suitors to try and sire an heir. After a time, it is said that she had given birth to over twenty children, each one becoming a ruler in their own right. She loved her children with all of her heart, and with that love she armed herself and renounced her throne becoming a free riding champion to protect the realms of her children.

The Healer Dutiful and Generous
A great plague once swept through the land, sinking it's deathly fingers into king and pauper alike. Many physicians were called upon to aid the people in their time of need, but most refused treatment for fear of contracting the disease themselves. A simple woman of common birth arrived one day, tending to the sick with magic previously unseen in the realm and asked for nothing in return but bread and water. She traveled the world treating the sickness as she came across it and in time the plague ceased to ravage the world and with it gone The Healer vanished from history.

The Warden Curious and Reflective
In the Garden Primeval, a wizened elder watched over all. She observed the plants growing, the animals living and dying, and the mountains grow and fall. The Warden was a keeper of this sacred place; a job she took most seriously. One day she sat down to meditate on the meaning of creation, and there she sat for hundreds of years. Cities rose and fell around her, children grew and aged. It is said that she became one with the earth itself, a great tree growing around her and preserving her for all of eternity.

The Hunter Noble and Cunning
A great deer once ruled the forests of the north, a mysterious creature said to be woven out of moonlight. A greedy king laid a bounty for the antlers of this magical beast, and many rose up to try and claim the gold for themselves. A noble hunter went out into the woods, bow in hand seeking the elusive deer. He searched for nearly three months before he came across it drinking from a deep forest pond and drew his arrow. The two stared at one another: their eyes locked in a furious battle of wits but before long The Hunter lowered his bow and walked away. He knelt before the king to explain what had happened, and for his insolence the king ordered The Hunter to be executed. The Hunter rose, drew back his bow and pierced the king through the heart before escaping into the forest where he was never seen again.

The Lost Full of Possibilities
In an olden time of war and fire, a village was raided and all slain save for one small child. The child crawled on hand and knee from the wreckage of his home and kept crawling until his strength gave out and he collapsed to the earth. When he awoke, he was no longer a child, but a grown man with no memories of his own. The Lost picked himself up and began to walk, meeting many strange people as he did so and learning what it was to be alive in hopes that his memories would return.

The Widow Mournful and Dangerous
A great love had once bloomed between a noblewoman and a knight: a love forbidden by the rules of state. The two pursued their romance in away from the eyes of others and were wed in secret. The day came when a great war broke out between kingdoms and the beloved knight was called off to war. The noblewoman stood upon her balcony day in and day out waiting for her beloved to return. When at last her love's battalion returned home, he was not among them. Refusing to believe that her beloved was dead, The Widow set out upon the world, searching for her lost husband among the dead on the battlefields. The spirits of dead began to feel for The Widow's loss and many rose up to aid her in her quest to reclaim her lost love.

The Wayfarer Adventurous and Farseeing
When the world was young and the horizon was much closer, The Wayfarer set forth upon the world to find what she could find. Along her travels, she discovered lands both vast and small with kingdoms all their own. The Wayfarer voyaged around the world until all the land that had yet to be discovered had been charted and explored. When the day came The Wayfarer grew saddened, but quickly lifted her head high and ventured forth into other worlds. It is said that she will not stop until she has seen all that was, is and ever will be.
