The long forgotten dreams of innocence
Ages ago, in a world with spreading rainbows and galloping unicorns An innocent dream was being dreamt Of the perfect world we’re in With apples shiny red and grass a glistening green And wavering clear blue streams For the window was wide-open, letting in the bright sunlight The flower on its sill had its species still to be determined But it sprouted in its thick pink vase nonetheless
A long time ago, in a world with pale skies and wide opened doors A playful daydream was being dreamt Of the exciting days that were ahead With enjoyable class trips and silly early morning cartoons And secret notes of things that weren’t talked about, passed with naughty glee For the window now had faded white curtains tied up with a knot And the flower was now a daisy Blooming in its faded orange ash glass
A little while ago, in a world with a blackened sun and black charred buildings An unmerciful dream was being silently dreamt Of the wars and death spreading the nations With dirty tears and bleeding sorrow And long forgotten dreams of past innocence For only a dim light shone through the dirty window now The daisy on its sill, now replaced with a beige carnation Was wilting in its brownish cup
Very recently, in a world of long dark rooms and bolted doors A terrible nightmare was being dreamt Of the dried scars because and The crimson spills and far separated stars And no hope lingering For no light shone through the decayed window anymore And if there was a flower in the old broken pot on what used to be a sill It would be a lily, marking the death of all faith and innocence
