It's around 73 degrees where I live. My mom, sister, and I all went on a walk at a local park. AKA: Camping site etc. We were walking and I was leading because the other two are slow pokes. I glanced around when there came to a fork in the path. I didn't want to go forward, because I knew what was there. So I turned and started taking the other path. A huge hill loomed before us and I heard myself saying, "Can we go back?"
My sister shook her head, "No, we can't, you chose this path, you're going to take it."
It struck me as funny and ironic. Recently people have begun to tell me, teachers, ads, etc. that life is all about choices. I took my steps up the hill and then I looked down from the top, a gentle slope awaited me. I smiled, things are not always what they seem to be, and the right choices might look bad, but they end up being ok.
I had more choices as well. The woods may have looked dark and forbidding, but in them I saw deer, smelled the fresh scent of evergreens, and basked in the shade. Sometimes you just have to get that extra leap of faith in yourself to lead others. Especially if you want to follow them.
