Before the beginning of America’s Revolt against Great Britain was a time of great religious influences from Europe. One of these figures was the stories from Medieval Europe, Witches. The tales of these magical beings were carried on to the Pilgrims who invaded and took over what is Massachusetts.
The story takes place in one town known as Salem, Massachusetts. The date is April 18th 1692. A famous tale will be written, but keep this in mind, only twelve colonies existed, because Georgia wasn’t colonized by England, until the 18th century.
Massachusetts or Ryan as his relatives called him was performing trials that were out dated and cruel to the imagination. The man arrested for being charged as a ‘Wizard’ is Giles Corey. A man who was suspected by a few women. They called him the ‘Dreadful Wizard’ by the women.
The case was Mercy Lewis v. Giles Corey. She pleaded that he had beaten her and she admitted to him performing witchcraft. Giles on the other hand did nothing, but not only once, but also twice. She had pleaded about him to write in the Devil’s book. Another witness said they had seen a ghost who told the person, Putnam that Corey had murdered him. The silent man remained quiet for the rest of the trial. Mass sentence him to jail, until further notice.
He would wait, until September for execution or his trial of being a wizard. Mass showed no mercy and executed the death. He would be crushed to death. The crushing process was painful, but dreadfully long as well. It required large boulders to be placed on the person after all.
On September 17th 1692 the Sheriff still got no plea from him, so he took him to a pit where two days later he would be crushed. His silence would curse Mass for a long two days, until his death. No words from Giles were spoken, until his death was knocking at his door.
September 19th 1962, Giles was placed down and a wooden board was laid down on top of him for the heavy rocks. Mass placed the first boulder commencing it to begin. As the boulders were placed on the man, the more painful it became to watch. In the last of his words, he screamed out “More Weight” to the people before he died.
Great Britain had informed Massachusetts that this was a similar case to one in his history. The similarities made the colonial man flinch from the irony that his father had done the same thing to another man in early history. Mass found himself to be very similar to England before the future would slap the country in the face.
An ironic factor was Ryan’s mistake to hang his wife, so years later he repaid the family and left them. The children of his children will continue to curse Ryan’s name, until his fall. Ryan walked away silently to go repay other families he had caused pain for, while his dramatic phase in history.
To this day, many say they can hear the words “More Weight!” yelled out by a voice in pain. The curse of Corey is still lurking the residents and Mass uses this to creep his family out every Halloween! This brings back, so many memories to Ryan that he still regrets hurting those people in such a cruel way.
