Once upon a time there a boy who was deeply in love with someone. This person was near and dear to his heart. But he never came out and said how he felt for he watched and loved the one of his affections from afar. This story does not have a happy end, sadly. In the time the boy spent watching over his Beloved a secret was formed within the Beloved's heart. As time went by the boy grew distant from his Beloved. The ever-present guardian began to slip away from the Beloved who noticed he no longer felt the boy's presence. The Beloved was mustering the courage to approach the boy. When he finally had the courage to speak with the boy, he could not find him. The Beloved asked around town about the boy but everyone just sadly shook their head and walked on. He received a call late one night. On the phone was a woman's voice that was laden with quiet suffering and sadness. She had learned about the Beloved's search from a close friend. Her voice shook with grief as she told the Beloved that she was the boy's mother. Realization dawned on the Beloved even as she told him the sad news. The boy had hidden from the world for too long. It finally had taken its toll. The boy had took his own life leaving a letter for the Beloved. He thanked the woman for the news and hung up with tears welled in his eyes. Looking up to the heavens he asked why had he waited so long to say something. In the Beloved's heart, he had a sense of loss and love for the guardian who watched over him from afar. The Beloved turned and ran from the house, grabbing his keys, and jumping into his car. He sped off into the night towards the address the boy's mother had given him. When he got there and walked to the front steps, she was waiting for him by the door with a letter in hand. The Beloved carefully tore the envelope open with shaking hands. Unfolding the tear-stained page he read
"Dear My Beloved,
You are the world that spins round on its axis constantly and consistently. You are the stars that shine brightly and dimly in the deep of the night. I love you. I love who you were, who you are, and who you will become.I have loved you from afar and hidden the world from my feelings. Now I must go... I can not hide anymore. I know that you will never love me or even know me. But I will always and forever love you in life and in death. Good-bye, my Beloved."
As the Beloved read the final words, he let out a heart breaking sob and crumpled to the porch. His body wracked with sobs as the boy's mother knelt down and held the Beloved close as she would her departed son. Tears trickled down her face as she whispered that the boy was in a better place now. That he no longer suffered from hiding. The Beloved calmed slightly and thanked the woman then retreated to his car. On his way home, he stopped at a drugstore and purchased a bottle of painkillers. When he got home the Beloved wrote a letter saying that he was sorry for everything and for not having the courage until it was too late. In the letter he also wrote that everything he owned should go to the boy's mother. Then as he wrote the final lines, he decided to add one last request. He asked that when he was found that he be laid next to the boy. He also stated that his tombstone should read "Here lies a beloved whose heart was and soul was loved by someone and he in turn loved that someone. He was too late to say how he felt..." Then the Beloved took all of the painkillers at once. Convulsing for a moment, he cried out "I love you." then fell silent forever more.
