Chapter 5

Damien stepped closer to you, though calmly. He stepped before you, but did not do or say anything. Yet.
Now, your courage had returned, but you kept quiet, waiting to see what he was going to go next. Damien looked at a couple of papers for a minute before turning back to you.
“Look, I’m sorry for what I did to you… I tend to follow my instincts when I neglect to feed…”
At this, you scowled in his direction. “Instincts?! You could have killed me! If Eric didn’t pull you away, I would have died!”
Damien sighed. He then took a few steps closer, so that your faces were only inches apart. His glare was burning a hole through you, and the fact that you tow were so close together was making you uncomfortable, but you made sure that your face didn’t show it.
“You have no idea what you are talking about. Eric may have saved you, but he most likely did it for his own selfish reasons.”
Now it was your turn to glare at him. “You two may be brothers, but Eric is a good guy. He even brought me food that he made himself, and told me that I could explore the castle if I got bored. He was kind to me, when you were monstrous!”

Damien’s glare hardened, if that was possible, and he slammed you into the wall, holding you there by your shoulders. If you cared to notice, you would find that you were right on top of the one area in the room that was covered in blood.
“What will it take to get it through your thick skull that Eric is just doing those things because it was in his best interests?!”

You stared in shock, as he let you go, turning his back to you, holding his head, and sighing. “I will return for you tonight. Until then, be aware that I am prepared to use any means necessary to make you understand... For now, I suggest you remove yourself from my study.”

And in the blink of an eye, he was gone.

‘Maybe it is time I go back to my room…’ You think, and after all, you still needed a shower, so you walked all the way down the winding stairs and back into your bedroom.

When you reached your bedroom, you were surprised to see that you room was already occupied.
Eric was in your room, and turned as though he was about to leave, but as he did so, he saw you.
“Oh! ______, I’m sorry. I just came to put a couple of fresh towels in your room. I forgot to tell you earlier that your shower didn’t have any since we don’t normally use that bathroom… I guess I’ll leave you alone now, you probably want to use the shower right away.”

“No… wait.” You said. Something had been bothering you, and you had to ask him about it. He stopped. “Something you want to ask me?”
“Yes…” You said cautiously. “You see… I ran into Damien while I was exploring the castle… and he told me that you were only doing what you did for your own gain… “. Eric smiled.

“You see ______, I did those things because when Damien killed that werewolf, he was helping you only because he hates werewolves, and it gave him a chance to try and kill one. I helped you out because you deserved to be given a hand after what happened to you. I do what I can.” He smiled, though you had the feeling that he wasn’t telling you the entire story.

Eric nodded to you, and left you to your business. When he left, you looked around your room and saw a door that you had not noticed before. Upon opening it, you saw that it was indeed a rather clean bathroom, just as Eric had said. A toilet and a shower were in the room, as well as a towel rack on the wall to your left. Sure enough, there were fresh towels on it.
Grabbing what looked like a set of pajamas, you went into the bathroom, locking the door behind you, and stripped down, hopping under the stream of warm water.

When you were convinced you were clean, you dried off and slipped on your new pajamas, smiling. You curled up in your bed immediately, and fell asleep, completely forgetting about Damien’s warning.

Around midnight, you awakened with the feeling that you were being watched, but as you looked around, all that you noticed was that the curtains around your bed were open slightly.
‘That’s weird… I don’t remember leaving them open….’ You think, but you couldn’t finish your thought.

Suddenly, just as you were about to forget about the curtains and go back to sleep, Damien appeared before you, standing at the foot of your bed.

“But how…?” You gasped.
“Did you really think that I would forget about my promise, ______? Have you realized that what I had said was the truth?” Damien smirked slightly; walking up to the other side of your bed, and pulling the curtain open so that he was standing directly beside you.

You glared. “I spoke with Eric. He told me that what you said was a lie. He said that you were the one who only helped me because it was in your best interests. You are the bad one, not him!”

Damien was not fazed. He simply continued to smirk, although you thought you saw it falter slightly when you called him the bad guy.
“If that’s how you feel, I’m afraid that because you will not obey my words, there is only one thing left that I can do to change your mind.” Damien said, but he continued to smirk, almost evilly.

“Oh? And what’s tha-“
You never finished what you were going to say, because just then Damien leaned forward and kissed you.

To your surprise, it was a gentle kiss, and you were slightly disappointed when his soft lips parted from your own. As you opened your eyes, you saw that he had vanished yet again.

As you lay back into your bed, you tried to get back to sleep, but without much luck. Every time you tried to sleep, you saw only one thing…

Damien’s ice blue eyes.
