Chapter 2
There was a sudden rush of bright lights and a loud thump. The dark figure was merely leaning against a tree when he observed all of this. Probably some animal again, he thought nonchalantly. He peeked around the tree's pulsing side and nearly lost his balance.
It was human.

It was a girl, a teen that looked ready to start applying for apprentice opportunities. She was sitting on the ground, unmoving. Nothing else stirred, even the trees stopped pumping water through their roots. It was still and unnerving.

He was used to this, dark woods and accidental animals popping in, but not humans. No, humans feared his race, they cowered in their boots when a "nightly being" was mentioned. They loved light thanks to those bastards that called themselves do-gooders when they were more savage than any "nightly being." Well, physically that is. This melancholy wood was supposed to keep any other beings from coming too close. And yet here was a human, that would be the exact last thing he had ever expected to accidentally stumble in.

Humans were not allowed here. That girl needed to leave soon or else she would be feasted on by some trepidation lurker. Seeing she had not been spotted by anyone else, he figured he would be the one to rid her. Of course everyone else is asleep, you made them that way, he thought to himself.

The figure pulled up his hood and stepped out of the trees and into the clearing, clearing his voice.

"Go back to where you come from. Buisness here does not pertain to you and you must remove yourself at once, or otherwise forced out if you wish to not comply," the figure hissed. "Make your actions, now."

But the girl sat there, unmoving.
---
Melanie was confused. She had walked into a sort of portal and ended up in some other part of the woods, she assumed. The way she got there was strange, it felt as she was a coin thrown into a well. Everything rushing, as if there was no time in the world, but it came to an end faster than one would expect. It was sudden.

She observed the queer of the sheer forest. The trees were pulsating, as if blood ran through their branches. Not an animal was in sight. There was also an eerie quiet over this part of the wood. It was a hush that Melanie was so tempted to break, but fear of what would greet her made her think twice. This was no place to test their luck. Everything around her swelled, it made her feel like an inferior insect.

Melanie wanted to run, but where? She cursed at herself, she knew running would have been the best idea. It was too late, the opportunity was lost. Maybe if she strolled around, she would aquire some sort of vague sense of what was around her, yet she felt locked to the spot. What could she do? She was a damsil in distress, completely vulnerable and unknowing, beseeching the gods for some miracle that would spare her life. Someone was bound to find her sitting there idly. To her horror, someone did.

It made her gut churn, she felt like throwing up, but not even air could leave her system. It was all being held somewhere within, waiting to burst out. The figure was not the one that emerged from within the trees. It was something in the trees, in the canopy of leaves...something from above.
---
He noted this human was not willing to move. That or she was too terrified to register in her brain. The figure let out a sigh.
"Come one, human. Let's get you out of here," he said dryly. He then noted she was looking at something. Another sigh escaped him. "Sorry, madame. I know this place is pretty fascinating, but I have to rid of your memories anyway. It is best to get moving before something less gentle comes along and tries to make you do their bidding."

For the first time she said something. "Too late for that," she said. "Too late."
He jerked his gaze to where she was gawking and realized it was indeed too late. Whatever this girl did, he had to make sure she did not leave this place. That was the last thing he needed.
