My Tragic Tale
I am the King of Roses and I did not choose my fate; I was imprisoned by the Queen of the Feys. I had been on my way, to woo my sweet love, when I saw the fairest white rose I had ever seen; growing by an old stone circle. 'What a fair gift this would be for my lovely lass, it is almost as fair as she,' I thought to myself. Stooping, I plucked the rose from the shrub, but as I did so, I pricked my finger on a single thorn. A tiny drop of blood fell from my finger and landed on one of the rose's petals. The blood splashed as it hit and slid along the petal, into the rose's center, leaving a red trail.
"It is no longer fit for my sweet love. I have spoiled it." I said to myself and cast it aside.
The rose fell face down on the dirty road below. Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a mist appearing in the stone circle's center. I turned to face it completely and a beautiful woman emerged from the mist. On her head she wore a crown of flowers and was garbed in a long dress made of leaves sown together with fine spider silk.
"How can you cast something so pure and fair aside without trying first to see if it can be saved?" The woman said in a soft voice, her eyes flashing.
"I am on my way to see my sweet love, I do not have time to wash dirty roses," I replied and started on my way.
"A rose you picked without my permission," she called after me, "it was not wise of you to stray too close to my country without taking heed."
With that she sent the rose shrub to bind me, until the day my sweet love came to call me back to the world of men, by spilling a drop of her own blood on the white rose.
