Ladies and gentlemen, hoboes and tramps,
Cross-eyed mosquitoes and bow-legged ants,
I come before you, skinny and stout,
To tell you a tale I know nothing about.
Admission is free, so pay at the door.
Pull up a seat and sit on the floor.
I'll tell you a story you've all heard before.
One bright day in the middle of the night,
Two dead boys got up to fight.
One was blind and the other couldn't see
So they chose a dummy for a referee.
A blind man went to see fair play;
A dumb man went to shout "hooray!"
Back to back they faced each other,
Drew their swords and shot one another,
A deaf policeman heard the noise,
And came to arrest the two dead boys.
He lived on the corner in the middle of the block
in a two story house on a vacant lot.
A paralysed donkey passing by,
Kicked the lawman in the eye.
He crashed through a wall without making a sound
Into a dry ditch and suddenly drowned.
A mute onlooker shrieked in fright
And a lame man danced at the ghastly sight
A long black hearse came to cart him away
But he ran for his life and is still gone today.
I watched from the corner of a big round table
The only eyewitness to the facts of my fable
But if you don't believe this lie is true
Just ask the blind man he saw it too.
