"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things." -Philippians 4:8As my BFF will be quick to tell you, I'm what she calls a "Jesus freak". I will be the first to admit that is true. But that just scratches the surface of what I feel, to be quite honest. It's something beyond just an obsession about some celebrity or some hobby I pursue avidly. I don't know if people really understand that.
For most of my life, I was not Christian. When church was mentioned, I, I'm sorry to admit, pictured crazy people bowing to crosses for hours. I suppose I really didn't know what I was missing. Then, because I was in a play that practiced at a church, we had to go to one service to say thanks for the chance to use their stage. And with that, my stereotype of what a church was crashed and burned. The people there weren't crazy obsessives, but a cheerful and joyous bunch. I have to admit, I was sort of jealous. What did they have that I didn't?
After returning to that church many times, that answer suddenly became apparent. These people were so happy because they were surrounded by the love of the Lord. The same all-powerful, almighty God who created the Universe in a week loved THEM! He loved them so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to be tortured and humiliated on a cross so that we would not have to face punishment for things that we have done wrong (and there are a LOT of those, let me tell you!). And He loves all of us the exact same way. He desires to have a relationship with us. To be there when we fall. To give meaning to our triumphs. To spend eternity with us in heaven. All we have to do is say "yes".
So, am I a Jesus freak? You better believe it. The question is: Are you?
