And I miss you. You were one of my favorite people ever when I was down and out. I just want you to know that after all this time I wish we were still at that time where we talked forever, but we aren't anymore. This site changes and so do all of us. But we can never forget the memories we've made. And as much as I have, I try not to. You're forever the coolest in my book!!!

Note: Mom passed away October 29, 2011. I know I need to change what is below, but I don't really know how to start. I guess I need to spend some time putting my life back together before I even know who I am anymore. I have not forgotten my many friends here on gaia...I'm just not feeling very sociable yet.

Brief Bio:
I am a 56 year old woman (I find that much more shocking than you do, I'm sure), married for 31 years and have a son, 29, and boy/girl twins who are now 22 years old. I have a mother who is 93 years old and has Alzheimer's.

In March of 2009, I decided to devote myself to mom's full time care, moving into her small apartment in a retirement home. I sleep on a cot in the kitchen area, within sight of her bed. The expectation was that she was not going to live for long, but her physical health stabilized. Except for feeding herself and walking a few steps, she relies on me for everything. She often does not know who I am, or remember anything about her life. She cries a lot, and can be very needy at any time of the day or night. She is back on hospice again, but her mind is still going faster than her body. Late stage Alzheimer’s is intense, and quite often these days I am unable to function socially even on gaia. I hope my friends will understand when I just can’t do it, and will not take it personally.

Why I'm on Gaia so much: Looking for a new diversion during this crazy time, I stumbled on Gaia and immediately fell in love with the fishing game. But when I started meeting the people, I was hooked. Fishing provides me with some much needed socialization and stress relief. I am often distracted because of talking with mom, or may be suddenly away from the keyboard without warning, so I can tend to her needs. More recently, Resort World has grabbed my attention, and perhaps the minimal socialization there suits me better for this intense time.

What the future will bring, I have no idea. But some of the friends I have made here from around the world most definitely have fallen into the “real” category, and I can’t imagine a time I wouldn’t try to check back in with you. People and times change, and with them our habits and contacts with people, but the meaningful connections we have with others leave an imprint on our souls.
