A while back, in march 08, my brother had a stroke. It was the biggest wake up call I've ever had. He's the best big brother I could ever ask for, and I nearly lost him. Since he was only 23 at the time it was a big deal. He was hooked up to a lot of wires and had 7 doctors, and a bitchy day time nurse that I wanted to slap across the face. The night it happened, we found out about 7:30 pm. My mom freaked out and so did I. Out of all my other siblings, and me and him are closest to my mom because we didn't hurt her like my other 2 siblings did. I remember sitting next to him when we first got to the hospital. He couldn't move his right side of his body. I was in tears, as well as my mom and sister. When my brother finally opened his eyes, he was looking right at me, and I cried even more. He didn't like to see us crying and tried to take off his neck brace, which he had because the doctors thought he might have had a seizer during the stroke. My mom sent me to the other side of the bed he was on and told me to hold his hand, and I did. She told him to squeeze my hand. He didn't move at all. It was like his right size was frozen, and just wouldn't move. It was truly horrible. The doctors literally told us there was a 99.9% chance he wouldn't make it through the night. And that his brain could swell so much they'd have to remove a part of his skull to make room, and that the first 3 days are the hardest. We were all there, hoping for the best. And he pulled through, like the fighter I know he is. He didn't give up at all and neither did we. Later that night, he could move his right side again. We're still amazed he made it, through with what the doctors said. The other weekend I went to the Demo Derby with him and on the ride home I couldn't help but think about how glad I am that he made it through. Because I have no idea what I'd do without him. He's the best big brother and he's always been there for me when nobody else was. And I know I can go to him with anything and he would be there to help me.
