The two years period between Naruto and Shippuden is a good idea to thrown in characters! I didn't think of it; mainly cause Shippuden wasn't done when we created the Kagekami.

I only wrote 3 short stories in German about our clan. I mosly drew pictures that are 80% uncoloured yet. ^_^U
But of another character (Vergil from the PS2 game Devil may Cry) I have like 50-60 shortstories of his child and teen time, which is unknown untill now in the games. I threw in my character there too. Too bad I'm quite lazy, I haven't translated them into english yet. Will I ever? XD

Suna is a great place. As our clan spread all over the (ninja) world one character was also placed in Suna. By then noone else wanted too, whining "I don't wanna go to Sunaaaa, they kill each other there! There's Gaara, he's creeeepy!!" Thank you. I always research a lot, what makes it a time-esting task (omnomnom). But that's the only way to invent a character that could be from the show. I mainly watch episodes, use Wikipedia and Co. for more information and ask friends who watched/read the japanese original. For the clan systems for example I found some nice maps showing which country owns which clan in the series and then we thought up woch element wasn't used yet (shadow) to build one more. In our clan we established the rule that our characters may not start relationships with main characters (Naruto, Sasuke etc) for this would be unreal. Because if they did, they would have to appear somewhere in the show. Using secondary characters as our main friends/lovers it's like the Kagekami where only a hidden chapter of the Naruto saga. ^^

I'm sure you could do this too, it's not so complicated, it only takes time... it's just a petty some other fans don't take that time and smash in their all-beautifull, oberpowered, loved-by-everyone fictional characters. They're ok but I tend to not take them serious. And as they didn't invest much time in a desent background storie, they often lose interest in their own creation at last.
