I've been halfway-finishing poems about free will and mortality.
I don't know if those ideas help at all...

A poem idea?
Try war, there is so much stuff to talk about when talking about war.
Like this:
The mother knits
and the son goes to war
and the mother thinks "That's what sons are for."
And the father? What does father do?
He runs a store.
His wife does knitting
his son goes to war
he goes to the store-
and the father thinks"That's what men are for."
And the son? The son and heir?
What does he think, the son and heir?
Why, nothing at all. He doesn't care.
His mother does knitting,
his father keeps store,
he makes war.
When he is through making war
he and his father will run the store.
On knits the mother,
on goes the war,
on goes the father running the store.
But the son is killed: he goes on no more.
So the mother and father go in their car
to the churchyard and think"That's the way things are."
And life goes on, with knitting and wars
and stores
wars and stores and knitting and wars
and stores and stores and stores
and wars.
