Cameron walked down a back alley, looking for one of the cats that had run off. Rin, one of the older girls at the orphanage he ran, agreed to watch the orphans and runaways that currently resided in the huge old warehouse on the banks of the Hudson. They'd be fine.
He had shifted partially to a bat, gaining the triangular ears necessary for tracking his target. They perked up suddenly, and he stopped in his tracks. Cameron could hear...panting. Wind was whistling barely past something in the panter's mouth, it almost sounded like...fangs. That would also explain the terrified squeaks of a rat as the blood was drained from it. The vampire was hungry.
He abandoned his search for the cat, shifting fully into an eagle and lifting off the ground. He had only risen about twenty feet when his eagle eyes spotted the vampire, bloody and laying still in an alley not too far from where he first heard the pants.
Touching down, he shifted into his human form. Approaching it, he looked closely. The boy was about his age, with purple hair and pale skin. His eyes were closed. There was a double necklace with a grey pendant around his neck. Picking him up with his arms under his knees and under his shoulders, he noticed the boy begin to stir.
